I look at Goals Saved Above Expected (GSAx), and on goalies that had a minimum 1000 unblocked shots against (about 30 games), he ranks 41st out of 50.
This is where he ranked leaguewide in the past 5 years
2014-2015: 1st out of 96
2015-2016: injured
2016-2017: 8th out of 99
2017-2018: 101st out of 102
2018-2019: 18th out of 100
2019-2020: 83rd out of 92
Cool, thanks for sharing. I am pretty sure the rankings I saw were GSAx over 5 seasons. That would be in line with these rankings - 1st, 8th, 18th, 83rd and 101st must land you somewhere in the upper third of the goalies that played signifiant minutes over that span.
The downward trend is worrying, and somewhat matches the eye test - when Price is not top 15 worthy, the team is out of the playoffs.
The inconsistency is troubling, to say the least. You have to wonder what happened in the summer of 2017, 2018 and 2019 that could explain such drastic shifts.
Now the question is: does Price still has the tools to deliver a top10 performance? Will he show up next year?
