No way Holland does that deal. Russell is only owed 1.5M in actual wage so why would the oilers retain 2M? Puljujarvi won’t be involved in a trade with even more reduced value coming back

I think you'll need an NHL backup and I'd like to see an upgrade at 3C. You have some cap space...

(a) Russell might return a 4th without retention and (b) Holland won't accept a 2nd for Puljujarvi.

This is more in line with what CF users think these players are worth. Par for the course.

I just don’t get it. Larsson isn’t a third pair d he won’t be any time soon.... Tossing bouch to the wolves kinda reminds me of shutlz and how well that worked out. Shelter bouch 5-5 in the beginning get him heavily involved in pp and gaining confidence have the luxury of easing him into more defensive responsibilities. Larsson is the only shut down d really have definitely needs to be in top four.

You think JP is worth pick 39 in the 2020 draft, we’ll keep the pick

Yes actually

He was a fourth overall pick. 39 is the absolute least he should get.

Why would you care what Russell is owed??? his cap space is 4 million. That is what he costs to building the team. The owner might care about that, but not the GM(to a point).

Oilers are delusional about the return for JP(i live in this city, trust me). He is a 22 year old bottom 6 forward till he proves the NHL otherwise. A second for a player that was drafted in 2016 that has done nothing ample of opportunity, is generous considering he couldn't even play on the Oilers and lack luster wing depth at that time. Just because he was a 4th overall pick 4 years ago shouldn't mean he should retain that value.

but either way, I value any opinion so thanks for not calling me a ****.

Lias Andersson is worth 45 overall then, he was a high pick too. What was Yakupov price when he got traded ? Why Edmonton don’t keep him ? You need wingers, even if he’s saying he won’t play with the Oilers, he’ll mature and will play one day

JP could make an impact now while pick 39 will take a couple years to develop depending on who you take. If you take a goalie, thats five years, a defenseman, thats three years, a forward two years

In a covid world, the owners are losing money, they would look at russell since his real money is a lot less than his cap hit

what impact are you expecting? 20 points from a 3rd line spot?

You never know if he's gonna boom or but. Look at Nichushkin, the dude had what 0 goals last season and he bounced back this season so you knever know what's gonna happen with poolparty

Be my guest. #39 has about a 1% chance of being as good as Jesse Puljujarvi.

https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl2017e.html

Three years later, not a single 2nd round pick has played a full season. Of 18 forwards taken in the 2nd round, only 3 of them have played more than 10 games. None of the 18 have played even half a season.

https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl2016e.html

Four years after the 2016 draft, where 20 forwards were taken in the 2nd round, we have just 1 player who has played a full season and 3 more who have played more than 41 games.

https://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/draft/nhl2015e.html

Eighteen forwards were taken in the 2nd round of 2015, one of the deepest drafts this century. Five years later, 13 of them (72%) haven't yet played 82 career NHL games.

So I don't agree that you'll wait 2 years for a forward taken in the 2nd round. Probably 25% will play 200 NHL games in their career and you're unlikely to see any impact from them until Draft+5.

I personally don’t care what Russell is owed but a responsible owner would, thus his GM should as well. Is Puljujarvi worth more then just a second? I guess that’s debatable on how much potential and upside he still has in somebody’s eyes. Every fan of their team over values their players. Hab fans over value Domi and leaf fans think Kapanen is the next Jari Kurri.
