This constant trading of Nylander is just stupid. It's not happening and it makes no sense for it to happen. Just stop.

No... $6m of over cap LTIR space is gonna cost you either..

1st rd pick in 2022 unprotected & mid level d prospect

Or .. 2022 conditional 1st & one of kapanen ..sandin..or johnnson

Or 2022 conditional 1st & Robertson ..

How much you wanna keep your team together & have 6m Or more (we'll take a contract back too)

The Leafs are in much better shape than you think obviously. Both Robertson and Liljegren are joining the team. Robertson is in the playoffs and Liljegren is probably joining them later and almost certainly will be on the roster next season. Spezza will be resigning at League min. They also have quite a few tradable contracts they can move that can be easily replaced and cheaper players put in their place. Dubas already said there has been a steady stream of calls about Kapanen but he''s hesitant to move him and it would take a lot to make it happen but they also have a lot of players they get calls about. Moving Kerfoot would be easy and they would get assets back and if they really wanted to move Johnsson they can even if it's only for picks. LTIR only benefitted them because they used their situation to bring up guys with no cap hit which is the only benefit of taking LTIR. Teams don't pay for LTIR contracts they get paid for taking them. The team still has to pay the player so the Leafs take the financial hit to get assets back and make it possible to bring up a contract up to $800,000 who doesn't affect the cap. The Leafs are one of the only teams that will pay an LTIR contract to get picks and the ability to bring up a guy without incurring a cap hit.

The team trading bad LTIR contract is paying the picks and prospects, not the team receiving. Cap doesn't get bigger when you add player to LTIR

Why are the Leafs trading prospects for LTIR. Taking Gaborik off Melnyk's hands should be considered doing him a major favour, not the other way around. Yes, LTIR provides the Leafs will additional cap flexibility, but make no mistake about it, the Leafs can't be getting rid of their prospect depth for LTIR when they are so reliant on developing their own players, especially for depth purposes. As for the Ducks trade, I don't like it. It's been well-reported that Kesler is trying to come back, so there is no guarantee, even if it's likely, he stays on LTIR for the remainder of his contract. Also, Manson's contract looks less and less appealing as we talk about it each season and his control diminishes. If and when the Leafs do trade Nylander, or a combination of Kerfoot, Johnsson and Kapanen, it should be for young defenders with more control and/or term on their deals.

OTT has no interest in that deal and the reasons are beyond obvious.

Just terrible trades for the Leafs. Getting LTIR players doesn't help or hinder a teams cap. And the Leafs certainly don't want Kesler or Abelkaker just in case at some time they are deemed medically fit.

Wanna bet, Who care about Zetterbergs $6.1m cap hit. It's the real money that counts and it's only 1m Detroit doesn't have to move Z and we sure as hell aren't giving up good pieces to move that is just totally laughable.

Im not saying you would move the contract away. Just bury it on LTIR like normal team would. The thing is.. Leafs dont need that contract either and would not pay anything to take it on..

Agree it makes no sense to move it, Detroit's cap space $35.2 million+Zetterbergs $6.1 million gives us roughly $41.3 million to spend this summer. We wont spend nearly that much but nice to have.

Why on Earth would Detroit do this??? A warm fuzzy feeling of helping a division rival?
