There is no CBO so it will have to be just a regular buyout for Alzner

There is still speculation that a CBO could happen in the fall that's why I added it.

I'm pretty sure they have comprehensively said there won't be CBO's. Gotta imagine that would have been a big concern with the new CBA, and I doubt it would have gotten through this quickly if that wasn't clarrified. All of the owners are firmly against it because it will cost them real world dollars at a time when revenues are low.

If there *were* a CBO (There's not going to be), why wouldn't someone like Vancouver just use it on Loui, which in turn would allow them to keep their depth through 2020-2021 (Which they need if they want to be competitive)?

That's a lot for van to give up for just cap relief considering Sutter only has 1 year left and Roussel isn't even that bad.

The CBA has been agreed to since then, without Compliance Buyouts.

I don't think a regular buyout of Alzner is a smart idea this year.
They are better off buying him out next year and keeping him in the AHL this year.

I am not sure whether or not the league needs a CBO to be included in the CBA that is why I added it. Either way it really doesn't matter as we still have the cap to bury him in the AHL

Right, that would work this season. How would Habs fans look at the outlook from this in the 21/22 offseason? That's looking tight unless more people walk.
The Domi trade definitely has got to be done first too, if you take on cap dumps no way Buffalo gives 8OA as they'll know you can't afford the contract. Theres some new and interesting ideas in there for sure.

1. Your not in a position of strength to negotiate this type of deal. We are taking 7.375 Mil cap hit so you can resign some of your top end players and all we are asking is for a player that still has many question marks surrounding his NHL play and a back up goalie your not likely to be able to afford next season even with these moves.

2. Unless your sending an unprotected 1st this year Eriksson isn't being traded anywhere and seeing as you don't have one this year looks like he is your problem

Agreed the Domi trade definitely has to happen 1st and Next season Tatar and Weal likely walk and any combination of Chiarot, Armia, Lehkonen, Byron and Virtanen traded but also coming off the books would be 4.375 Mil from Sutter and the 3.472 Mil we already carry over would be more than enough to resign Gallagher at 6 Mil, Danault at 4.5 Mil (I wouldn't want to pay Danault much over 4.5 as he would be a 3rd or 4th line center even though he is probably worth more) and our RFA's to bridge deals.

Never said they were in a position of strength, but a potential starting goaltender for the next 8-10 years, a23yo 20-goal power forward, and a 3rd rd pick is way too much. MTL takes on 7mil for a single season. Sutter will be off the books when Petey, Hughes, and Demko need to be resigned so I doubt he gets traded at all, and of all the bad contracts on the Canucks, Roussel is the most serviceable one.

what if you can't move Domi?

If he can't get medically cleared...this isn't going away by next season.
Who would trade for him and give anything up?

Fine make it Beagle instead of Roussel then! your still never going to get rid of Eriksson without including an unprotected 1st in 2020 and you don't have that so you will have to move others! Also if you want to keep Demko we can take Dipietro instead but I think you would rather keep the younger better goalie under team control for yourselves.

I doubt there would be any issue moving Domi even with his medical condition and the virus continuing into next season. Even if there were reservations the trade could include a condition of adding a future consideration if Domi cannot play next season as well

How so? Buffalo wouldn't be getting him until the off season anyway and even then next seasons playoffs are not likely to be affected by the virus even if the start of the season is.

I don't see this as going away, it's the new normal. And people aren't ready to accept that yet.
So if he can't play in the playoffs, than he won't be playing next year considering it's not a long break between them

Depending on where the 2020 1st rd pick ends up I could see the team moving it if it's late enough and the Canucks don't like a player in that area. In such a deep draft class that'd go a long way to covering Eriksson. I'd be happy to package the 2020 1st, DiPietro, and Eriksson for a pick in return
