You're literally giving Toronto a get out of jail free card in terms of cap relief and the better player in I'll say 2 years max

No, this if if CGY wins first overall, so Laf and more for Marner is a pretty bad trade

And hughes is better than Matthews right? Heard all of this garbage befor. Yes I like lag but he is unproven and would actually be a better fit in calgary.

What is this jail we are stuck in? Is it because we have too many good players?

an average prospect. Lafreniere is the centrepiece. Which I have no dea why he picked the leafs as a landing spot.

No Marner is a great player and worth roughly what he is getting paid (maybe slightly overpaid but not bad at all). I've never thought Hughes is better then Matthews lol, you're comparing a top 5 center to a player who brought a negative impact to his team. However that doesn't mean you should look to trade the first overall pick because the player is "unproven" Lafreniere might just be the best all around player to come straight out of the draft in a long time. No he is not McDavid level. I think he fits around Matthews level coming out of the draft though. Also when you consider how much of a difference the 925K is to 11 mil, it definitely makes a huge difference. I wasn't attacking the leafs lol, im just saying why would you want to give away the first overall pick that is just plain stupid. There is three maybe four players I would give away the first overall pick for this year. McDavid, Mackinnon, Matthews, and Pettersson, MAYBE Eichel that's it.

That’s exactly what was said about Hughes. Infact when most Colorado fans thought that Ottawa’s pick was 1oa they said a trade for it starts with Matthews.

The leafs do not need lafreniere.

Yeah that's why I thought this trade was just bizarre in general. Also, yeah that's probably what the asking price is for the first overall pick. That is why the first overall pick never gets traded. You literally have to give up your best player, and depending on how good he is and age, you have to give up a lot more. You should be glad that a Matthews for 1st overall pick never happened because that would have been a brutal trade for the Leafs last year

We both know Ottawa isn't taking that trade LMAO

Also imagine trading Lafreniere + for Mitch Marner. That is some next level stupidity. Would you have traded Ovi for Giroux?

Every player that gets the hype Lafreniere is getting in the last 20 years has lived up to it, Matthews got just as much hype. He will very likely be a top 5 winger

I would personally heavily consider trading the #1 to LA for #2 and a couple solid picks/prospects. Byfield has a pretty solid chance of being Malkin level if Laffy pans out as good as Ovi and Flames need a top end center significantly more than another top end LW

So did hughes. Personally I think lafreniere is much better. But how good he will be at the nhl level isn’t 100%.

My biggest issue is why would the leafs want lafreniere? I mean yeah sure I would love to have him but why give up marner when we have two great centres.

Hughes did not get a lot of hype, all the talk was about if Kakko would pass him or not. The palyers in the last 20 years that got this much hype or more are as followed
- Kovalchuk
- Ovechkin
- Crosby
- Kane
- Tavares
- McDavid
- Matthews
- Dahlin

Now we have Lafreniere and in 2 years likely Shane Wright. None of the other #1's got nearly as much

Getting rid of Lucic's contract would likely cost Calgary their 2021 1st round pick or maybe you package him with Mangiapane or Valimaki, but for sure it costs you. Lucic's $6M cap hit with $8.5M in bonuses on the contract, for a player who rarely shows up. YIKES. Let's just remove that from the deal and discuss the remaining pieces.

Ottawa's 2021 1st will for sure be a lottery pick so it doesn't make much sense for a team that's looking to be a contender in 2-3 years to give up a potential top 10 (potentially top 3) pick for a Gaudreau who is coming off his worst season in 5 years and is UFA after 2 seasons. There might be a team that takes that swap but it isn't Ottawa and your choices are limited because the teams who are a Gaudreau away from contending don't really have the cap space.

The closest you'll get with OTT is keeping Lucic OUT OF THE DEAL and swapping Gaudreau for Matthew Tkachuk.
OR
Lucic + Tkachuk >> Formenton + NYI 2020 1st.

CGY needs to add in the NYR trade. Bennett's a 4th line, maybe 3rd liner on a bad team. Schneider's an ECHL'er
