Should the Leafs re-sign Freddie when his contract is up? If not, should they find a prospect, similarly to Sorokin? Do they draft one or should the Leafs sign a goalie in FA?

Lets say in his last year he is able to go back to a 2.65gaa and a 0.918sv again. I would bring him back for 2 years at 6 million. This allows Woll or Scott to have some more development time and wont be to expensive.

If he stays at 0.909sv I would say grab a goalie and do a 1a/1b system like the islanders did. Campbell/Raanta or Allen could do well.

Who knows Campbell might like Markstrom (late bloomer) and could become the leafs future starter.

If he goes back to his previous self, he’ll command more than 2 x 6 million. It’s a double edged sword

he will be 33 so signing him to a long term contract is a hard pass. 2 years at 6mill is fair as any more would mean more term and Dubas aint interested in that. If he was young like Vasilesky I would easily give him more money and term.

Next summer he’ll be 31 if that’s when the UFA period is. I think he still gets more than 6X2 if he puts up good numbers

NYI had to wait 6 years for Sorokin, so that’s not really an option. The best hope for TOR is Woll.

I would sign Andersen if I was TOR. #1 goalies are so hard to find, as a Flames fan I have first hand experience. You have one, he’s a work horse and he has the temperament to handle the TOR market, it’s not for everyone.

It’s foolish to think he’s easily replaced

in a word... NO!!!!!!

Andersen has been an inconsistent piece of garbage. Is bad in October, good November December January, then absolute trash February March April... come playoff has lost the 2 series vs Boston singlehandedly

He is not the one to blame. You should look at what the Leafs defense is made out of before blaming the goalie. If you think our defense was bad last year, you are in one hell of a ride when you see how much worse it is now. If you are expecting big things from Freddie, this is not the year to do so. If he played under the Burins d-core, he will be in talks of Vezina contention.

honestly i was thinking of going to Carolina if Dubas wants another goalie prospect. They have 7 goalie prospects and Eetu Mäkiniemi could be a target for Dubas. Makes sense as Carolina wont be able to use all their goalie prospects and Carolina can get value for him.

If not my idea was using a goalie 1a/1b system like the islanders. Campbell and lets say Raanta can play 41 games each.

Who knows Campbell could be a late bloomer like Markstrom.

Thats always the lame go to response from Andersen apologists... 12 times this season Andersen let in the 1st shot on net.. thats not all on the defense, since December 1st Andersen had one of the worst save % in the league (worse than Hutchinson) so thats not on the defense. It is unbeleivable the exccuses you people come up with to defend a mediocre inconsistent goalie

Fam you never blame a goalie if your defence is built like an AHL team. Learn some hockey

It all depends on how he does this playoffs and next year.

The issue they're going to run into is on the current roster and in the org they have 1 starter (Freddie). Campbell is at best a 1B tandem goalie, Woll maybe can be the BACKUP in 2021, and Scott's a non factor for a while.

I agree with you, but they can't afford to overpay him. Ideally you give him a 2014 Fleury-esque extension (Fleury was 32 going into that extension) of say 3-4 years at ~5.5 million

Yes he’ll start the season at 32, (October bday) but if they’re negotiating his contract extension after the playoffs he’ll still be 31. Freddy can still get a decent payday
