Theoretically, the trade is fine. But I disagree with the title. Marner absolutly mustn't go.

Trade Andersen and go with a UFA goalie to backup Campbell... sign Heiskenen to a bridge deal 3 year 5 million

The Kings will not be trading Dustin Brown. They don't need the cap space but desperately need his leadership for the kids coming into the league. The only way Brown ends his career not in a Kings jersey is if he is taken by Seattle in the expansion draft.

So Brown is so valuable the Kings wont trade for NHL level players but theyll let Brown go for nothing to Seattle???? What kind of logic is that?

As one of the few guys that you can see at least trying every night, that back-checks (even though he's not always good at it), that kills penalties, I as well disagree with the the AGM title. In fact, his contract basically makes him untradeable, especially if the Leafs want to try and get fair value for him. I don't see that Marner trade as fair value. Yes, Marner does cough up the puck in his own end a fair bit, and yes, sometimes he hold onto the puck too long, or does things with the puck that makes you wonder, but I argue that his attitude is great and more of what this team needs, especially when you can see other supposedly top-6 players taking shifts off at times. I saw a few AGMs propose a Marner for Barzal deal. Now, I am not sure what the heck the Leafs would do with a 3C of Barzal's quality, but I would argue that's a far more "fair value" type of deal.

I would prefer that:

To Dallas
Marner
Dermott

To Toronto
Miro Heiskanen
Cogliano (Cap dump)

Then I would not do the other deals:
Rielly Heiskanen (he can play on the right)
Muzzin Holl(he can also play both sides as far as I know)
Sandin Liljegren

Basically everything is the typical delusion out of leaf land. That Hall contract? Cmon.

I don’t think Dallas accepts the marner trade.

so, there's a lot going on here but the part that gets me is that the leafs are paying the Kings decent players and a pick for the joy of burying kesler (with retained salary for some reason?) on LTIR?

They can't afford the protection slot on a player that will be turning 37 years old and entering the final season of his contract at the time of the expansion draft. If Seattle wants to take him, he'll be gone.

However, they're not going to be looking to trade him either, especially if they're expected to retain half his salary. If Toronto wants to take his entire cap hit in exchange for a 2nd round pick, then I'm sure the Kings will consider it. Otherwise, they're just going to keep him until his contract expires.

Well for this he sure should. But I don't think he "has to". You should never pressure your team into trading a 22 year old superstar, 94 point, penalty killing winger

oh come on I agree that he shouldn't be moved for less than his value but for Heiskanen? You couldn't ask for much of a better fit for Toronto. And for DAL, they get a major offensive spark- whether they do it or not, I don't know, but I know that Toronto should. No slight against Marner at all, but this fits our needs to well to say no

Anaheim doesn't need or want Johnsson.

Anaheim doesn't need or want Kerfoot.

Anaheim will only be trading Manson for immediate help at RD (Liljegren or Holl plus).

Los Angeles doesn't need or want Engvall.

Los Angeles won't be trading Brown for Holl and an over-the-horizon second.

And your comment that Toronto can get the money to re-up Heiskanen by trading Andersen overlooks the fact that Freddie's contract expires at the end of the 2020-2021 season. So if you're talking about trading him THIS year, then you're moving 6 regulars (Marner, Andersen, Johnsson, Kerfoot, Dermott and Holl) i order to acquire Taylor Hall, Miro Heiskanen and Josh Manson, plus two years of Dustin Brown whom you can't protect in the expansion draft. In short, I don't think that the team you've created above is an improvement on what you have now.

You meant "Ducks" but we all know who you're talking about. Just as my geography starts getting shaky at the Mississippi, most people east of it have a kind of hazy understanding of who's where in Southern California.

You do realize that the Leafs will never trade Marner who is a franchise player who plays 5x5, PP and PK and grew up in Toronto idolizing the Leafs and more importantly is a tremendous role model to hockey fans and particularly kids and who also does a lot of good for less fortunate people in this world. Marner is a franchise player and you could say even a generational player in that the Leafs have been waiting for atleast a generation to ever have a young player like him on their team. Have no clue who your favourite team is as you keep that hidden in your profile but my guess is you are just another jealous Marner and Leafs fan trying to get a reaction.

That'll be easy given Dubas history of being a firm negotiator who gets his RFAs locked up to team friendly deals.

Dallas has offensive problems but I do not think that we desperately need a powerhouse player like Marner to solve it.

A new coach with with more knowledge and understanding of where the new NHL is going is the first step into correcting the situation. After that you give ice time to players like Gurianov and Hintz and bring in Robertson and thing will change quickly.

Miro is going nowhere since the D of the next 10 to 15 years will be built around him in Dallas.
