Description
Kopitar Waives for MTL.

MTL gets a number one two-way center. They pay ALOT for him but ultimately, this is what it would take.
LA gets futures and young prospects and a cap dump.

This team looks extremely good.

I actually think LA would accept this trade.

Agree, I think the Kings would go for it, assuming that Montreal is on Kopitar's 7-team acceptable trade list.

I don't see Montreal willing to give up that many assets for Kopitar though.

No thanks from MTL. I would give that much only for a younger C .....and Kopitar only scored 65points for the last 2 years.

It definitely is a lot to pay! But it really does complete their team. This team would be a contender for sure. Montreal thinks long and hard. Biggest factor for them to say no is Kopitars age.

If MTL wins Laff. I could see them making a play for a true #1C.

So I could see potentially the habs trading:
Kok + Domi + 2021 First round pick

Their lines could potentially be:

Laf-Kopitar-free agent RW (Granland?)
Tatar-Danault-Gallagher
Drouin-Suzuki-Armia

Why is Kopitar to Montreal a constant trade? Kopitar has a NMC, doubt if he leaving his Pacific beachfront home for the St Lawrence River. Montreal can spend 10m on other(s) and keep their picks.

Make that Caufield, Poehling, Alzner, and 2020 1st and Kings accept. We have no use for Kotkaniemi.

He would have gotten over 70 points this year if the season didn't end, but who's counting?

There's no way any of this is happening, but you realize KK is a better value right?

This is a no. Kopitar doesnt vault the Habs into contention and this would just make them a middling team for even longer.

Personally rather see Suzuki, KK and Danault down the middle for the Habs for the next 5 years then have Kopitar.

He doesn’t exactly play with the best wingers. The guys he plays with would be 2nd/3rd line players on a contender

As a Sabres fan I would absolutely love to see Montreal make this trade. Perhaps for 1 or 2 years they would stay ahead of the Sabres but they would have a 3 - 4 year window on the blackened where they would be brutal.and now way to get out Kopitar, Weber, Price bad contracts

Yup, investing that much money for that long, on players that old is not a good idea. Maybe we're competitive for the first year or two but after that is a huge crap shoot
