I don't know who you are referring to... Ghost had down year this year, but those stats are just plain wrong.
He also had two knee surgeries this year, so maybe that has something to do with the issues on the ice. Just a wild guess there. Last year Ghost had 37 pts last year with a positive corsi rel and E+/-. If that is your "3rd pair guy", i'm ok with that. His upside is significant... which is probably why OP is willing to give up 4 assets and slotted him in to the top-4.
Meanwhile, Johnson has 34 pts over the last 3 season combined and gets absolutely dummied in corsi and E+/-. He has no potential to return to decent play because he is not good. Period. Now be honest with yourself, if you took that phone call as the GM, would you turn it down? I doubt it.
This is the equivalent to trading Letang when he was banged up for Andrew MacDonald and some other "assets." One player has the chance of playing a meaningful role, the other is joke of a contract.
Those stats are dead right.
I don't bs around with garbage stats like power play.
You evaluate a player you look at their 5v5 play. Everything else does not tell a real story. So many guys have nothing but power play points and are garbage 5v5 players.
Anyone who knows anything about hockey would tell you, the first place you look for a decline in a player is in their 5v5 play.
There it is. I just laid it out for you. You can accept it, or you can live in a cave.
Truth is Ghost isn't that good. You can keep pretending he is. But that's not what the facts say.

This notion of Mantha being injury prone is extremely disingenuous and shows you don’t watch the Wings and only stats. Of the three seasons he’s been injured they’ve been from two fights (Witkowski, Nemeth) and one where Muzzin slew foots & body slams Mantha on the ice. None of those injuries (eg broken finger) would cause long term damage to him. Mantha also scored 38pts in 43 games and if you were to back to Jan 2019 to current (82 games in total) for Mantha he has scored 73pts which was his pace this year on the worst offensive team in the league. Pittsburgh and Detroit aren’t great trading partners as we would require young blue chip prospects if we wanted to move Mantha which we don’t.
There are always excuses for guys. But hey, I've seen a lot of guys get into fights and play hockey and not get hurt repeatedly.
Truth is he is hurt every season.
It is what it is. You can excuse it all day. He's hurt every season.
And the fact still stands that Zucker produces more points and goals than Mantha. He had 6 goals in 15 games with the penguins this year.
That's a 30+ goal pace. Which I can easily see him getting as a penguin especially on a line with Malkin and Rust. Or Crosby.
