Considering mantha is 25 and has a career high of 48 points I’m not sure the type of return wings fans are looking for in a mantha trade. I agree wings don’t make the trade because of the age difference, but mantha hasn’t proven anything yet to be worth a significant return.

Mantha was averaging almost a point before getting injured this season. Many Red Wings fans including myself view him as a guy who can get 30 goals and 60 points when healthy, even if he hasn't reached that mark before. The Wings won't trade him as a 48-point guy if that's what other teams view him as.

Also, Mantha never requested a trade out of Detroit or said he's unhappy and Detroit has given no indication that they are looking to trade him. He looks to be a part of our young forward core playing with Larkin and Bertuzzi. I'm not really sure where the idea on Cap Friendly got out where everyone thinks he's for sale. Based on this, it would likely require a big overpay to get him out of Detroit.

Ghost for Jack Johnson and some filler... tears of joy

1) Nobody wants Jack Johnson
2) That contract is too much money for what he provides and three more seasons.
3) The Flyers have enough forward depth without the fourth-liner/AHLer add-ins
4) Nobody wants Jack Johnson.

... and you have to pay the combination of Murray and Jarry their money. Hint: It'll be more than 5 million combined.

I agree mantha won’t be traded, but his value isn’t sky high like some wings fans think. He’ll probably be a 30 goal 60 point winger I agree with that. I’m just saying wings fans shouldn’t be expecting a massive return for mantha atm and he won’t be traded regardless so it’s just a mute point

But Detroit fans don't want any return because they don't want him traded. Since he hasn't done anything why do you want him? You don't see Detroit fans trying to trade him.

I agree that Mantha won't be traded. But if you're trying to make a realistic Mantha trade, I think that Wings fans should expect a massive return because otherwise he won't be traded.

There shouldn’t be any mantha trades but once again cap friendly gets on these dumb trends. Last night there was a huge list of Drai trades. I think rather than making trades of “overpaying” for mantha, people should just make fair value trades since it’s not going to happen one way or another.

....before getting injured....like every year.
I don't see this as helping the penguins. They don't have time for a made of glass player always hurt. On top of it Zucker is more productive. No his contract won't last 6 years, but they don't need it to. Just 2 or 3. Which is what it is. That contract ends when he's 31. We good. No doubt next year Zucker puts up more points than Mantha.

I mean can't we say the same thing about Gostisbehere. I mean really. 42 games played. 4 points. 6 hits, 7 take aways 22 give aways.
51% corsi. While getting 56% of starts in the Ozone.
Last year was no better either.

He's a vastly over paid 3rd pair guy.

Kind of explains why I see Philly fans scratch him left and right on here.

To be honest, I wouldn't want him. Why pay more for bad results.

I don't know who you are referring to... Ghost had down year this year, but those stats are just plain wrong.
He also had two knee surgeries this year, so maybe that has something to do with the issues on the ice. Just a wild guess there. Last year Ghost had 37 pts last year with a positive corsi rel and E+/-. If that is your "3rd pair guy", i'm ok with that. His upside is significant... which is probably why OP is willing to give up 4 assets and slotted him in to the top-4.

Meanwhile, Johnson has 34 pts over the last 3 season combined and gets absolutely dummied in corsi and E+/-. He has no potential to return to decent play because he is not good. Period. Now be honest with yourself, if you took that phone call as the GM, would you turn it down? I doubt it.

This is the equivalent to trading Letang when he was banged up for Andrew MacDonald and some other "assets." One player has the chance of playing a meaningful role, the other is joke of a contract.

This notion of Mantha being injury prone is extremely disingenuous and shows you don’t watch the Wings and only stats. Of the three seasons he’s been injured they’ve been from two fights (Witkowski, Nemeth) and one where Muzzin slew foots & body slams Mantha on the ice. None of those injuries (eg broken finger) would cause long term damage to him. Mantha also scored 38pts in 43 games and if you were to back to Jan 2019 to current (82 games in total) for Mantha he has scored 73pts which was his pace this year on the worst offensive team in the league. Pittsburgh and Detroit aren’t great trading partners as we would require young blue chip prospects if we wanted to move Mantha which we don’t.

Those stats are dead right.
I don't bs around with garbage stats like power play.
You evaluate a player you look at their 5v5 play. Everything else does not tell a real story. So many guys have nothing but power play points and are garbage 5v5 players.
Anyone who knows anything about hockey would tell you, the first place you look for a decline in a player is in their 5v5 play.
There it is. I just laid it out for you. You can accept it, or you can live in a cave.

Truth is Ghost isn't that good. You can keep pretending he is. But that's not what the facts say.

There are always excuses for guys. But hey, I've seen a lot of guys get into fights and play hockey and not get hurt repeatedly.
Truth is he is hurt every season.
It is what it is. You can excuse it all day. He's hurt every season.
And the fact still stands that Zucker produces more points and goals than Mantha. He had 6 goals in 15 games with the penguins this year.
That's a 30+ goal pace. Which I can easily see him getting as a penguin especially on a line with Malkin and Rust. Or Crosby.

Okay noted, you’ve never seen those incidents and you’re stat watching. Witkowski cross checked him in his hand to break a finger, Muzzin slewfoot and body slam to puncture lung (should’ve been fined/suspended), Nemeth was a normal fight. So out of those three the only one that I’d consider was normal was Nemeth but let’s continue to talk about a player you no very little about. I also wouldn’t extrapolate anything with a 15 game sample size especially when shooting delta is 32.5% but let’s forget that. Also, I never once said Zucker is trash but rather if we are to move Mantha it’s for a blue chip prospect and we aren’t great trading partners.

if falling to the ice causes you to puncture a lung, you are made of glass.
Plenty of guys get hit to the ice, a lot have been slew footed. Name me one other guy you have ever heard of puncturing a lung from a slew foot.......I'll wait.

A slew foot to body slam I wouldn’t call “falling to the ice”. They you go again with disingenuous comments when you clearly haven’t seen the incident even still. Let’s forget about the dead weight of Muzzin falling onto him also because that doesn’t serve your narrative. I’m not an NHL injury causation database so I can’t just pull up the latest broken rib resulted from a slew foot. What I can tell you is that the occurrence doesn’t occur enough in the NHL to derive any meaningful assumptions/analytics and you’re completely underselling an incident.
