Thats really not a problem to buy him out, however at least on this site Buffalo and Jersey fans have liked the idea of aquiring him for a mid round pick

Please give me an example of a Sabres fan doing this so I can properly chastise them.

Then I don't see why you guys want to move him anywhere?? If he has value you keep him in your lineup and move out other contracts that are problems to get under the cap next year. A mid round pick is not going to help your team next year

Clearly you don't understand the Hawks prospect system. We have 2 (maybe even 3) 3rd line prospects that are fulltime ready and with a flat cap, saving $3M matters. Maatta is better then the prospects (Beaudin, Carlsson...maybe Gilbert) but not 4 times better or even twice as good to warrant the cap spend. You are going to say other teams are going to say the same thing, but the reality is, other teams don't have 2 or 3 prospects ready to play in the NHL fulltime.

Then why not ask for something of value back and not just a mid round pick

I don't know maybe look to acquire a backup goalie on a low cap number to fill a whole

That's what I meant why not look to acquire something in return for Maatta that can help your team instead of a mid round pick that does nothing to help you.

Sorry, I see what you mean now. Hawks have a backup they like in Delia, they want to give him a shot. Up front, the Hawks are well rounded. They could use a top 6 winger if Alex Nylander doesn't work out, but not sure they are ready to admit that need.

Jack Quinn or even better Lafreniere could solve those issues easier than a trade could anyways

I am thinking they should have been top 4 in the West then with no real needs or major injuries this year. What happened??

I cant see the Wild giving up a pick that will most likely end up as a better player than Strome. However, if their best pick ends up 15-20ish, i think they would definitely consider this.

Statistically, there is about a 60% chance that a 1st round pick plays 200 NHL games, and the percent chance that it winds up being a player that can put up 50+ points per year are way lower, so to say the pick will "most likley" be better than strome is kind of not true. If it was a top 5 pick then sure the odds are in your favor, but not guarentted. This pick s gonna be anywhere from 11-20 most likley.

Top 6 youngest teams in the NHL...young guys take time to develop and you don't replace them just because they haven't peaked. Boqvist, Mitchell, Carlsson, Kaublik, Strome, Dach, Debrincat, Kampf, Nylander, Highmore all 25 and under. They take time to gel and and most are in the first to third NHL season.
