Jankowski has spent the majority of his career in the Flames bottom 6 while Johnsson has always been a top 9 guy for the Leafs. Why would the Leafs ever trade a guy whos spent time on the 1st line for a guy whos spent time on a 4th line?

No it'scrazy to think Hutton and Jankowski helps the Leafs. You can keep Dermot and Kerfoot for the same cap as you did for Hutton and Jankowski

That defense is just brutal. Two left handers playing the right side to fit in Hutton? Is Lillypad not living up to so many Leaf's fans expectations a year ago that he can't win a job in the lineup?

more lions i like it. With Malgin and Matthews on the team I could see him taking interest in coming over.

but at the same time there are issues

Suter would be the 3c as that guy is a monster. Plus with line mates like Kapenan and Barbanov we could see the 3c the leafs are in need of.
Leafs have no need for hutton and I see the dcore being

Rielly- (future partner)
Muzzin-Holl
Lehtonen-Dermott

yep, I was actually going to propose him coming over as he and Marchenko before he was taken by columbus were on my 3c center list. For starters, he knows Matthews and Malgin which could influence his decision. Second this guy is an incredible center, He can win faceoffs regularly, can protect the puck to the point where u need to take a penalty to take it away, and in general is solid a center. With some Dubas magic I could honestly see him coming over and if we can move kerfoot, being a possible long term solution.

Other teams who could use him
Minnisota
Tampa (if Cirelli goes)
Colorado (take over from jost)
Columbus (need that 2nd c)
and many others

I don't understand the dislike for Liljegren. Liljegren progress has been as good as so many others Dmen to where /draftedhe was drafted It seems on CapFriendly, all bottom pairing RHD on non Leaf teams are sooooooo good, that the Leafs have to overpay in a trade or overpay as a UFA. I figure the Leaf are solid with Muzzin, Reilly, Dermot and Holl. Now finding the next three....Sandin looked capable last year, KHL Dman Lehoten, Liljegren and Marincin. might be OK. Yea I would like to a sure fire competent NHLer at low cost and low acquisition cost...but so tough to do without depleting another position

Absolutely, look what he did with Lehtonen. No rumours of him coming to the Leafs, where all the attention lied to the Devils, Canadiens, Kings and Detroit. If he wants to make a name for himself, Toronto is the place to go.

I don't think his progress has been as good as others in the 1st round of the 2017 draft, better then Foote but otherwise not as good as the others generally speaking. That said, hardly alarming as D guys take time. The kid just turned 21 so may need another year, but why not give him a chance next season?
