Barrie IMO was the Leafs worse Dman last year. He can't play defence. Ceci ran OK to not OK but Leafs are not paying near what other teams are offering those guys as UFAs. Not duly impressed with Clifford either.

Basically if the Leafs don't resign Barrie and Ceci they'll need to move Johnsson and Kapenen to be cap compliant

or move one and do 1 year deals on dermott & company

With a roster size of 23. A 21 man roster makes only Johnsson need to be moved and we saw the Leafs were prepared to manage with it this past season.

Your valuation of market rate for Dermott isnt very good either. He played a lesser role than Holl this season, only has a handful more NHL games total but is making $500,000 more than him. Its likely you'll see Dermott take the same deal Holl got at $2 mil for 3 season. Dermott at 2 mil makes the Leafs need to find about $350,000 to fit the comfortable 22 man roster. A shorter term for Mikheyev or dropping someone of little value like Clifford for Korshkov gets that done.

Really though I think you'll see Dermott traded and Liljegren given his chance on the right side.
