So this is a super obvious no. I think mostly because you have 1 tried to solve all of your problems in one trade.
and 2 forgotten that the 30 other GMs are aware you are done if you don't make a trade.
You're going to be losing any trades you make to get under the cap, if you don't accept that you will be very dissapointed.

You are correct, that's why the Leafs move Johnsson for a 4th - 7th rnd pick and Kerfoot (has a little more value playing C) for a 3rd - 5th rnd pick, opens up just under 7 million

Get off the drugs, Outside of Marner Detroit by far is giving up the best assets. And you're totally delusional if you think we're eating $3 million on Larkin while taking on roughly $11 million on Marner.

Trades for Bertuzzi, Doesn't even sign him and leaves him out of the lineup. What a freaking joke.

The term Garbage is absolutely nonsense - everything else headed to Detroit in this particular trade is better than anything they have - it's not a trade with any sort of realistic properties but garbage not even close bud

I think you’re both kind of right. It’s not garbage, but it is for Detroit. If you look at where Detroit is as a franchise, they are looking for pieces that will help contribute to their core in the future, while not providing on ice value now (basically, they don’t want guys that will help them get a couple more wins, while still being a bad team). So, draft picks, high ceiling prospects, very young roster players with a lot of room to develop etc.

Johnsson - would have some value to a playoff team that has a hole at 3rd line LW. For Detroit? Literal garbage.
Kerfoot - team needing a defensively responsible third line center? Hell ya. Detroit? Garbage.
A good goalie that will soon be UFA. Awesome for Carolina. Trash for Detroit.
Dermott - meh. Ya. Okay. Whatever. They’ll take him.

Then on the other side Detroit is giving up like 5 of their top 7 assets and retaining salary along the way.

well careful. I agree it's not great for DET, but it's far from "garbage". Both Kerfoot and Johnsson would play in your current team's top 6, you'd get your starting goalie, and a young D with NHL upside, so lets be careful.

That said, not worth it for DET with all of those picks, because you know they are both likely going to be top 5

marner might cost larkin with no rention and a 2021 1st. maybe not even a first (value wise, not saying the trade makes sense for either team)

hronek, bertuzzi and the other first are all better assets than anything else coming back from toronto

Just meaning Detroit is giving up better players, Bertuzzi is better then Johnsson and Kerfoot Hronek is better then Dermott obviously Marner is better then Larkin plus Detroit giving up 2 top 1st picls along with 2 2nds and 2 3rd Detroit easily gets the royal shaft on this trade.

Kerfoot would play 2C (as we have no one after Larkin) but Johnson would be 3rd liner assuming his knees hold up. Mantha, Bertuzzi, Fabbri, Zadina would play above him.

He'd have to fight Fabbri for the last spot in the top 6 but my point remains

Your point is really pointless as if the trade would go through we’d have a combo of Kerfoot and Fabbri as our 1-2C and no Hronek. Those picks would be again top 4 picks for multiple years. Again extremely debatable that either let alone both would make our top 6 on the current team considering we want Fabbri to shift to C and a plethora of cap for FA. This ACGM is literally the definition of over valuing ones own players and looking solely at the needs of one team.

Don’t worry about being careful. They get two players that would play in their top six and would be gone by the time they’re ready to compete. They would get a goalie who hits UFA soon, and would prevent them from bottoming out like they need to continue to do, and a meh young d man. It’s garbage for them.
