Wait... what now? So if we traded Tarasenko to clear cap, he'd have no positive trade value? You're very confused. Allen has the value of Allen as a player. And Allen's value is about a 3rd round pick whether we are near the cap limit or have a boatload of space. If nothing else at all, your valuation is waaay off simply because there will be teams willing to blow that offer out of the water.

Granted not players like Tarasenko, but I would consider a backup goalie getting $4mil overpaid. Is that worth a 1st, probably not. But honestly I think unless you have already traded 1 of Steen or Bozak teams will take advantage of the fact that if you don't make a move Pietrangelo walks. (I am assuming that the pick is very late in the first round, after #25) which considering that was what Barclay Goodrow fetched as a rental, it would not surprise me.

Marleau had 1 year left on a 3 year contract. That is where im basing a lot of my valuation of cap space on. Toronto HAD to make a move, and that was what it cost, this summer many teams need to make moves, and few have the cap space. (And an owner who would willingly pay players...Ottawa)

Blues aren't in as much of a cap crunch as Toronto was, and Eriksson isn't nearly as bad as Marleau was.

you cant take advantage of that because at the end of the day you lose out on any marketing value when someone else gets him for cheap. You are paying for what you get Allen isn't a backup in Detroit. He had 2nd best save percentage. We aren't paying to get rid of him if he moves people are paying for him. Same for Bozak. Mid round pick, now Steen you can probably gain a second. Because it's only 1 year if it was 2 years then it would probably be a first. You aren't really taking advantage of anything you are actually putting yourself behind the 8 ball because other teams could jump the gun and get some market out of it.

I do think this would be at the level of a best case scenario for Detroit. But Giving up a 1st for 1 year of Marleau last summer would have garnered a similar response.

That’s true. I also wouldn’t be surprised to see cap dumps cost extra this offseason with the flat cap and not many teams in a position to take on salary.

Dobson was an interesting one, I had assumed he would be untouchable, but then on looking he only played half of the games out of the season, averaged 13 minutes when he was in the lineup and was replaced by acquiring Andy Greene at the deadline. Ouch. If he's untouchable management's view of how to develop him is unorthodox to say the least.

He is 18 or 19 years old and the Isles are flush on d-men. Trotz doesn't play young kids very much either. The only reason he stayed in the NHL is because Dobson was ineligible for the AHL. Would have gone back to Juniors and Lou thought he would develop more here. His GP and minutes are pretty meaningless given his situation
