I’d do that in a heart beat. No way MTL does that though.

Sorry but an unproven top 4D and a 10 pick bump isn't getting you Danault.

What do you think it would take?

I'm not sure what value Danault has, but I figure that he's a pending UFA while Graves is cost-controlled (and likely relatively cheap) for another 3+ years which is an important factor.

From Montreal perspective I figure that they have Suzuki, Kotkaniemi, Domi, and Poehling at C, so moving Danault as a pending UFA for a LHD would make some sense.

Danault is a good player but I dont really see the fit when you already have Compher and you have Newhook coming soon. Seems a bit unnecessary after next season before Newhook signs

What value do you think Graves has in isolation, in terms of picks?

I figure that it would take something like a 1st + 3rd to get Sakic to consider trading Graves, so the difference between Graves and Danault is like a 2nd, which is roughly equivalent to the price of trading up from a 2nd to a 1st. Maybe Graves + 2nd + conditional 3rd (if Danault resigns) for Danault would be appropriate.

Graves = Kulak
Kulak was great on the top4 with Petry, less when he plays with someone else. Kulak isn’t worth 1st + 3rd, maybe a 3rd round pick. They both didn’t play enough to be called top4 dman. Kulak numbers were insane in 2018-2019, was worth like 4.5M long term from some advance stats, etc. Doesn’t mean he’s a top4 dman. Danault is more than just a top6 Center, he has GREAT chemistry with Tatar and Gallagher. They are reallllly good together and we need to keep that line + he’s a French Canadian. You’re offer is good, but like Coga said, you got Newhook who’s coming soon, just play Compher or Jost another year 3C

I have to disagree on Graves. Yes Makar made him better, but he surprised last season before Makar was in the NHL and then took a real step forward playing with Cole at the beginning of the year. He's not just a guy that is carried by his partner. Avs fans don't want to trade him but are at least somewhat open to it due to Girard, Byram, etc.

I do agree that it might be tough to get Danault away from the Habs. Graves, Compher, and Toronto's 2020 third is what I'd offer. I think that's better than what JGP brought, as you get two guaranteed roster player that can figure into the long term plan. Montreal may not want to do that, and that's fine. Danault is an important player. Allegedly they really like Graves though, and if they want him then I would hold out for Danault. Maybe they would be willing due to their depth at C. Just my personal opinion.

I'd say other GMs would have to hardly overpay to pry a french speaking hometown boy playing as our 1C and voted 7th in the Selke. I'd say he's untouchable but if he's not willing to resign Bergevin will cut ties, until then no one could know his real value.

I feel like you're desperately trying to find the answer to the question who will be the avs 3c going forward? But ignoring the fact that they have compher, newhook, bowers, kadri, jost, and possibly other prospects that they haven't drafted yet.

I feel like prying any centre away from MTL will be a losing battle for us because they dont have any legit 1c 2c as of yet
