The point of this exercise to help people understand that Marner should not be compared to these guys. There have been so many people who told me that their team’s top younger has a higher ceiling than Marner (ie Fiala, Yamamoto & Boeser). They act like Marner is some sort of old declining player & forget that he’s only 23 & already playing at a very high level. I’m willing to bet that Marner has the potential to be a top 5 RW, if not top 5 winger overall in the game over the next decade. Anything is possible, but the chances of him reaching that should be higher than all the players I compared him to.

I just read the author of this post and then realized it is a totally anti-Marner post by someone who is really a die hard Penguins fan who is extremely jealous of Marner and the Leafs and has very limited hockey knowledge.

Marner is a superior player to everyone one on your list which should be no surprise.

@MitchMarnerElite This is the most accurate comment I have read from you in weeks about Mitch Marner and you are 100% accurate and just want to say thank-you. I can tell you from actual experience with him that you will not meet a finer person and role model than Marner and he is everything that is right with being a professional hockey player. Great role model for kids and to be honest with you it is not all about money and cap space in the real world and do not question his salary for a second because what he brings to a team on and off the ice is absolutely incredible and should be applauded.

You guys are hilarious. You're like the prom queen who ends up in an abusive relationship with their high school sweetheart, but can't get out because they refuse to see the flaws, or won't listen to logic.

He's an elite playmaker, who's very good both ways, and makes the players around him better. He's also making a ton of cash, and will likely never live up to Leafers expectations.

That's the worst part though, is that the majority of "Get rid of Marner" posts are actually by Leafs fans. It's you guys! Yeah, there's some trolls around that will compare him to some chump, but you guys bite EVERY TIME. Then Marner has a turnover, or bone-headed play, or goes a couple of games without a point, and YOUR crew wants to move him! I'm assuming it's a self-esteem thing, which I totally get, but it's a lot easier if you just ignore them, realize you have an excellent player, and move on.

Or, alternatively, trade him to the Ducks for Josh Manson and Carter Rowney tears of joy

I admit, I do not know Marner personally but he seems like a nice guy & a tremendous hockey player. However, he also seems quite lazy when he’s on the ice. I’m not opposed to trading him, but it doesn’t change the fact he’ll be one of the Premier forwards in the game over the next decade.

I understand why Leaf fans are frustrated with Marner as his lack of effort should warrant a trade. However, that make it right for the fans of other teams to say that their top winger is more talented than him. It is important to recognize that Marner still have much room for growth & his ceiling is much higher than many of his peers.

Not gonna lie, many Leaf fans would take the trade you’re offering.

For sure.

I think he's an excellent player, and like most excellent players, he certainly has his faults. The fact that the Leafs (And to a lesser extent, other Canadian teams like the Habs) have their players under the media microscope, with them trying to make stories out of nothing, doesn't help.

So, yes to my Marner for Manson and Rowney trade? tears of joy (Kidding)
