Ya. I agree that centers generally are worth more than wingers. But then when you bring contract stuff into it, it muddies the water a bit. Granted, eichel has the better term, but pasta having a cap hit of 2/3 of eichel is something.

Sure but like you said there’s 3 year’s difference. Honestly, pasta will get close to Eichel, if not more when this contract is up. If I’m starting a team right now, I’m taking Eichel, but again I can see someone choosing pasta. They’re both great.

Drouin was a former 3rd overall pick that was traded because of his attitude (not his play) and he was traded for a guy with much less value AT THE TIME (an unproven dman) in Sergychev (who was taken off the board by the way, the Habs passed on McAvoy and Chycrun). Not bad I suppose, but his value was lower.

And Duchene got Girard (who wasnt as good a prospect as he is a player, Kamanev (solid prospect but nothing special), a late 1st (which only became top 5 because the sens are crap), a 2nd, 3rd, and a backup goalie. NOT BAD! But not what he was fully worth at the time!

You’ll have to explain how Sergachev value was lower. Drouin asked for a trade after his 10 point season. If they trade him then do you think he gets a team’s top defensive prospect, a 19 year old kid who was playing btw, and a high second rounder? My answer is no. So they wait, good play improves, as much a product of the team around him improving. As far as duchene you’re being awfully picky. That’s literally the going rate for 2C. RoR (twice), duchene (twice), Pageau. Those guys all are 2C, and they all got roughly the same return. And honestly think about ROR for a second. Would the Sabres have been better off trading him then or playing and waiting for a better deal. You know the answer.

Duchene wasnt a 2C at the time. If you recall, ALL the hype was around him, he was a 1C and a good one at that. He decline fairly quickly after that trade which is why he doesnt ahve the hype now that he did then.

Drouin also was really hyped up at the time, worth much more than Sergychev (in the eyes of the Lightning), but alas they traded him for sergychev.

I hold no horse in the race, im just explaining it as an outsider who remembers the hype aorund Drouin and his attitude issue with the team. They underused him because they were having a cup run i believe.

first year: 32 points in 70 games (a solid rookie season)
second year 10 points ... ... ... ... in 21 games. Thats about .5 PPG while being underused and rusty.
He then came back and put up 53 points (21 goals) in 73 games. a good season. AND HE WAS STILL 22
Sergychev was younger, and hadnt cracked the roster. So he was unproven (like an Erik Branstrom persee, but less)

Duchene was 100% a 2C.. had 3 seasons in a row under 60 points. Sorry, that’s just 2C numbers. Colorado at the time used him as a number one, but that didn’t make him one. Really they had 2 2C in RoR and Duchene. Sergachev was playing full time in the NHL at 19. Pretty sure he was considered one of if not the top defensive prospect at the time of his trade. Guess we’ll agree to disagree on this. Buffalo can hold off until they get an acceptable offer is my point. To which I’ve said: Hischier, Zacha, 7OA, Ty Smith, and Nolan Foote. Which I feel is an overpayment, but within reason when dealing a star like Eichel

Ah I guess Bergy has been a 2C since 2009! Damn! Lets forget his multiple Selkes and his recognition as a top 10 Center for most of this decade!

Yeah points are a good majority of it but not everything.. and Bergy makes up that difference by being the Elite of the Elite. Duchene is ****ing average defensively. What the hell are you even talking about? No one said anything about Bergy, because he’s obviously a #1. Whatever man, duchene has had a couple years where he’s been a low end #1 and a whole lot more years as a clear cut #2.

Man you really like to not read what others post, or take bits. I’ll be simple. Duchene isn’t a 1C because he’s not elite defensively, and honestly Just ok, ok away from the puck, so his point totals matter way more when that’s the only thing he excels at. And when he’s not doing that at an elite level (the majority of his career) he’s 100% better suited as 2C. Not difficult to understand. But please take me out of context again.

Yeah when he isn’t really good at anything else but creating offense, his point totals matter. If he was a perennial selke nominee it’d be different. He’s not. He didn’t provide much of anything but offense. And those aren’t elite numbers, ever in his career. So maybe you should have read my whole posts. Honestly I’m done here. You think duchene is a 1C and didn’t get full value on his trade return. I think he’sa 2C that got the market rate for that. Moving on
