Im pretty sure you play the other 3 teams in the top 4 of your conference once and the 1-4 playoff seeding is determined by each teams' record after the 3 games
The top 4 teams from each conference will play each other one time apiece, 3 games total per team, to determine the seeding (and to get some games in while the play-in round is going on to try to match the journeys to the first round)... is this what you're talking about?

There was talk that Boston for example would get a bit of a buffer though as they were so far ahead of everyone in the East. Like for example, they may finish 1st as long as they don't go 0-3
