Description
Read reports on Av's wanting Murray/Jarry at deadline, With Newhook involved. I also doubt we sign Hoffman, just wanted to see what the cap situation would look like. Green wouldn't be an awful cheap RD on the 3rd pair with a younging like POJ. If not Hoffman who yall think would play on first line with sid and guentzel?

Newhook is a top 3 prospect in hockey. I'd rather have SIMON play first line over Hoffman, and Simon has like negative accuracy, Hallander>Poulin rn, and honestly I'd rather play Miletic than Poulin next year (also really not sold in POJ on the bottom pair, I'd rather he get another year in the AHL and dominate, he struggled a lot in the beginning of last year, to he did get a LOT better by the end

The Avalanche don't need more goalies. Both of their current goalies are better than him!

As an Avs fan, I would be interested in Murray if he's willing to sign at a reasonable cost. I would not pay anywhere near that much in a trade though. It would be one thing if he had a stellar season, but he essentially lost his starting job. You don't give up one of the better prospect in the league and a first in a deep draft for a guy who has trended the wrong direction.

Absolutely not from Colorado.

Newhook is a top 10 prospect in the entire league (4th according to Wheeler's latest article in The Athletic). It would be beyond idiotic to trade him for a goalie, especially when our goalie situation is extremely solid (eg. our goalie tandem was recently ranked No.1 in the league by The Athletic, and we have the 7th best goalie prospect in Annunen according to another The Athletic article). Not that The Athletic is the be-all-end-all, but it does give a pretty good indication of player values.

As for the rest of the package, I wouldn't even trade a 1st for that overall package from Pittsburgh. We are contending and not in a position to be taking on multi-year capdumps. It's also questionable whether it's even worth paying a late 1st for Murray straight up after the season he just had.

A collection of mid-round long-shot picks don't really move the needle much at all.

I am anti-simon. I think he is absolute dog ****. Read Sakic "really likes" one of the penguins goalies and wanted one at the deadline and included Newhook. Also read POJ will be NHL ready next season. Poulin tore it up in the Q so I assume he will make the team next season.

Read reports about Newhook and a 2nd was offered for Murray or Jarry at the deadline.

Understand your point. Look what the VGK gave up for Lehner.. Prospect, 2nd round pick, Malcom Subban. Murray will definitely bring in more than Lehner.

Murray should probably bring more, but there is a big discrepancy between Newhook and Demin. I can see a first round pick and a couple B or lower prospects going to the Pens, but I can't see one of the top C prospects in the league. I'm not good with goalie trades though, so I could be wrong. I can say that it won't be the Avs sending a top prospect though. Newhook is probably more or less untouchable, outside of being included in a package for a young, established, high end C.

Yes I saw that in the description. May I ask where? I saw it reported that the two teams were discussing a possible Murray trade in the off season but did not see anything about Newhook being involved. I can't imagine that's accurate, but who knows. I hope it's not.

Gotcha, thanks. I definitely believe the Avs are interested in Murray. I don't believe that Newhook would be involved though. I would think it would involve Grubauer going the other way, a decent pick, and a decent prospect. Like I said before though, valuing goalies (and everything goalie for that matter) is not in my comfort zone.

I saw the report by PIT Hockey Now talking about Colorado potentially being interested in Murray or Jarry, but I don't recall ever seeing Newhook mentioned. I'd be absolutely shocked if he were moved, as the Avs rate him really highly. At the draft we had a trade around Barrie + 16 for Horvat and we didn't pull the trigger since Newhook fell to us. Given the season he just had he's virtually untouchable now, unless we're getting a proven 1C coming back (but even then I think it's arguable that we should keep Newhook as he will provide a lot of value on an ELC).

I agree Simon sucks... Hoffman is worse tho, I saw you say that, but I've never seen anyone else say that and was just saying that I'm sure some avs fans are gonna kill you for that trade, POJ may be ready, but I don't want to rush him, I'd rather he play in WBS, dominate (hopefully) down there and get called up at the first (inevitable) injury, Poulin had a lot of points, but his team was probably the best offensive team in the entire CHL, and his playstyle kind of needs him to be bigger and stronger than most of his opponents... I get the feeling he's gonna have a rude awakening when he first starts playing pro (and both Hallander and Miletic have been playing really good in a pro league for years)

Nobody ever knows the NHL market for players. Never thought we would trade gally, addison, and a 1st for zucker. Hoping as a penguins fan we get a haul for murray.
Also not sure pens would get that from avs for mur. Just read that in an article.

I've seen Murray to COL rumours too but I don't think it really makes sense when they have Grubauer and Francouz already. Mike high hockey is kinda a bad site to go to for accurate information, imo it's just clickbait with amateur writers. I'm sure you'll have teams like SJS, CAR, etc interested in Murray/Jarry but COL doesn't seem like a fit at all.

I honestly wouldn't trade Newhook for any other drafted prospect in the league, so that gives an idea of how highly he is valued to COL.

If Grubauer flames out in the playoffs I could see the attraction of acquiring a goalie, but I think the price to acquire him as well as the AAV/term would have to be right. Let's wait and see what happens in the playoffs.
