sorry but that stat doesnt seem right for the goals against stat, carlo was a plus 16 and krug a-4. yes +/- doesnt hold the value that it used to, but its also not completely irrelevant as some people may want to say it is, but in the case of the bruinsbeing one of the best defensive teams having the best goal differential and lowest goals against in the NHL, doesnt really look good for krugs defensive argument being on for more goals against than for, and i didnt watch a whole lot of bruins games this year but i assume macavoy and chara draw the matchup against the opponents top unit, rielly was not very good this year but he was also hurt most of the year and he still managed to put up a similar if not slightly better numbers than krug this year, i know this started from someone saying rielly was the best last year and overall no he wasnt, but rielly is better than krug

I read the first sentence, then you mentioned +/- and I stopped reading because +/- is an awful stat. There are so many better ways to evaluate a player's defense than using +/-.

read what i said, i know its not a good stat but its also not irrelavant, if krug was on a bad team where they give up goals all the time and hes a minus makes sense,( chabot for example, hes a stud but hs team is so bad hes always on the ice being scored on) but hes a minus on the best defensive team in the league with the least goals against , ryan graves being +40 is not going to make me say hes good defensively for example, nor ron hainsey last year, hes also the one who said they have the best goals against for a pairing which i pointed out wasnt true. bottomline he is not good defensively and rilley is a better overall dman, +/- out the window,

Why dont you just use a different stat, other than +/- because whenever a goal is scored against him, everyone on the ice gets a -1. Even if they had no affect whatsoever on the outcome. Its very possible that as Krug was coming on to replace the 3rd pair, he was scored on. Or maybe because him being the most relied on defenseman on the "3rd best defensive pair" had him staying on for extremely long shifts. All I'm saying is whatever his +/- was this season is completely irrelevent to his actual skill or on-ice impact
Hold up folks, this is an important conversation: you are right +/- isnt great out of context, but it does also hold its value.
In saying that, again: I really wish I could find that stat and I am very sorry i cant.
Dont dismiss +/-, please... But take it in context and use it as it makes sense.
