Montreal does it, as long as Labanc’s next contract isn’t too high. How much do you expect he’ll make?

I've made ARI posts in the past when they made a deal like that, resign Hall and Richardson while signing a few RFAs and moving Stepan, Hjalmarsson, Goligoski and Raanta. So yeah they can

Hmm, ok. That probably means we lose Armia, and it could get pretty crowded with this year’s 1st. I think the habs pass, and just stick with Armia.

Unless Montreal has totally given up on Poehling (which I don't think they have), this is an unlikely deal. While Labanc is a fine scorer, for sure, his game is pretty one dimensional. When you consider that the Habs plan to bring back Kovalchuk for next year and have Caufield and Ylonen coming on the RW, I doubt they'd be willing to do the deal, unless they've soured on Poehling, at which point it's a safe bet that SJ's scouts will have too.

I agree with you they haven't but the fanbase did put their expectations too high from the beginning (Thanks to the media).
Poehling wasn't drafted for his high ceiling but mainly because of his very high floor and on draft day Montreal knew they had an NHLer from the get go. He was projected by most to become a middle 6 guy which is what he's still projected to become, a hard nose two-way worker that could become a poor man's Danault in a couple year from now. Remember that it took a little while for Danault to become a full time NHLer (D+5) and shutdown center (D+6).

I was thinking the same thing! We should be taking a contract back on that one like hiking hers on or goligoski.
Otherwise that’s too much cap for them to take on

He’s still a top 5 offensive D man and will still be decent albeit overpaid when the contract is up. I’d keep him and trade Karlsson IMO

sign him to a 1 year show me deal and see what he does. If he bounces back big fat contract. If not bridge deals

That’s a situation that means Montreal loses no matter what. If he bounces back they can’t afford him, and if he doesn’t they blew the trade.
