The Detroit trade works

Habs decline, chiarot worked great with weber all year, and im assuming they want to keep them together for the rest of of chiarots contract

Don't see NYR doing the AZ deal and MTL and DET easily decline

Detroit declines, they can get a 3rd for helm at the deadline with retaining half, they have 0 use for smith, rangers pay for wings to take smith or no deal.

Their metrics were awful together and they were the worst penalty killing duo in the league

MTL says hell yes to Chiarot for Strome

Disagree, even if what you said is true, advanced stats are not everything. I agree that the PK thing was awful but I watched all of the Habs games and we would have been a disaster without Chiarot this year. He's strong, responsable and he can even put up a little bit of points.

Strome is a 3rd center with boosted stats this year because of Panarin, he was never really great before this year. We don't need another center with Danault Suzuki KK and Domi all capable of doing it + Strome will command a salary raise because of that fluke season.

We are not even doing Chiarot VS Strome 1v1 and most certainly not with a top 40 pick going the other way too!

1. He's not responsible, he's a 6 foot 4 3rd pairing guy that skates well, that's it. Don't let the smooth skating and the heavy shot blur your vision.
2. Strome is a right handed forward that can play in a top 6. (Habs depth at RW: Gallagher, Armia, Weise and nothing else.) With Strome you can put Armia back on the 3rd line, Weise on the fourth and put Strome with Suzuki and Domi.
3. We should absolutely do Chiarot Strome 1v1.

I get your point but I think he's better than what you're describing him. In any case, I like my 3.5M for 2 years 3rd pair defenseman that can easily help higher in the roster than a 40pts RW/C asking for 4.5 to 6M for at least 4 years. If we were to try and strengthen our RW depth, I would offer this kind of money to Toffoli/Granlund/Hoffman way before Ryan Strome or be wise and wait for Caulfield or Ylonen.
