If he retires, he could go play in Sweden or Russia or wherever next season and still earn a decent amount of money without being relegated to the farm team.

As the post below you said, he's got his bonus paid already, and the remaining salary is not that much. he could make a decent portion of it back on a one year contract without having to ride the busses
