That's an interesting take. Hertl for the 8th overall is a no-brainer from Sabres if they want to compete...the chances of that 8th overall becoming as good as Hertl are slim. He's a 25-year-old #1 center on a great contract.

If I am DW, I'm asking for the 8th overall + Cozens for Hertl. Buffalo certainly might reject that move as being bad in the long-term, but they are giving up years of Eichel's prime...

There’s not a chance in hell the Sabres would move both of those pieces for Hertl, and unlikely for even 1 of them

And he’ll be 29 looking for an 8yr deal on his next contract,
and that’s IF he doesn’t walk from us to be a free agent

Yes, but they can trade Eichel for some nice futures. They can use those pieces to rebuild, and hopefully, with some luck, get Eichel 2.0 out of it. But then, they won't want to make a trade for secondary pieces so that superstar player will demand a trade. They can then trade that player for some nice futures.
