And the trade is probably a fair trade, but it would be much better for Montreal to get quality over quantity, especially if the quantity is a LHD. The only way the habs would do this is if they want Lapierre, and think that he’ll be available where the Avs pick.

If somehow they fall out of the top 10 (16 is the lowest they could go I believe, unless they make the ECF), just go best player available. If Quinn is there, I’d take him. Personally, I’m high on Jacob Perreault, Braden Schneider and Seth Jarvis. Any of those guys would look great with Montreal

Avs are in win-now mode, and the risk of this to our cup chances weighs more than any potential benefit of moving up 15 spots in a deep draft.

Jumping up in the draft while moving out graves is a disaster move. A higher draft pick doesn’t help the avs win now. Avs are worse off trying to compete now with this trade

this is what someone with no long-term vision sounds like. graves isn't in the long-term plan of the avs unless you want to move one of makar, girard, byram or timmins. graves could be replaceable as soon as the midway point of the up comming season and at worst the end of that season. with a mid 1st in a good draft the avs could add a prospect with a really good shot of becoming a top 6 forward. if the avs want to keep their young top 4 d and the big forward line they need cheap elcs to fill out the roster. aside from newhook the avs have no strong forward prospects. kaut and bowers project to be 3rd liners. avs have over 7m to address any shortcomings on the roster. you need to look at the long term if you want a dynasty.
