So LA takes on the full Marner contract, Plus eat almost 50% of Doughty's contract long term and surrenders the #2 pick For basically scraps outside of Marner. Yeah that trade is bad for LA.

Ok I understand the Doughty retention but he is 30 and is only gonna get worse.

What I was thinking

Marner = 2nd overall pick
Doughty at 6 mil = 1st and 2nd with dermott who can be a top 4 D-man
Then 1 year rental of Iafallo = johnsson
Then Durzi = Malgin and 4th

If Drew Doughty wanted to play in Toronto he'd have signed there as a UFA instead of resigning with LA, Doubt he'd even waive to go home. Pietrangelo isn't wasting his time on a 1 year deal either. The trade is still bad for LA and Rob Blake would never accept that offer.

the leafs paid a mid range to late 1st to get rid of Marleau's one year contract, what does that make 7 years of doughty's horrific contract worth? I mean, Marner is close enough to worth the 3rd of all all by himself and then the Leafs throw in a good young defender, a decent middle winger and a 1st AND they take on doughty's crap contract? There's some bias here and it isnt on my side

How is Doughty at 6M a horrific contract? At worse you are getting a very good puck moving defenseman. He was a positive value player playi g on a crapshoot of a team

because he's a horror show defensively and getting , already declining offensively and has 7 years left at near 31 years old. It's not like he has a year or two left, that is a lot of years for a heavily declining asset who is already halfwway off the cliff. His Value, especially to a cap strapped team is incredibly minimal and would cost a boat load on it's own to take on, even with the retention.

Are yoy high? Thats ~45% retention, 6M for Doughty is a steal no matter how you write it. Also there is a very very good chance #2 ends up better than Marner. Easy reject for LA
