If the Leafs move Marner they probably want a number 1 dman back in return as the main piece.

Right, which is why the deal is only roughly fine value wise, not in terms of needs. Seriously doubt MTL would move Gally and Danault

the leafs lose this deal by a mile. they give up the best player in the deal plus some solid pieces in Kerfoot and Mikheyev and receive 2 pending UFA's. Suzuki is nice but hes no where close to Marner

If Toronto trades Marner, I don't think they're looking to shuffle the deck offensively. They need to be getting a young chip on the blueline.

Care to explain why Petro takes 10 million when his own team will probably offer him 70+?

I mean its good and if we avoid pietrangelo and go for a cheaper defenseman we could potentially have a Dynasty with this

still i feel Marner is one of those players we wont part from and Nylander is the more likely of the 2 to go cause a 31 goal scorer for 6.9 mill is a steal for many rebuilding teams. Either way not bad

So MTL is weak at center for ages, then as soon as they start having some talent at the position they should immediately trade them away for a winger ?

Marner is a talent that is very hard to find. You can find a bunch of nick Suzuki’s. I don’t like moving a centre but to acquire a marner you need to sacrifice some young pieces. You’d still have kk and can draft Rossi/lundell and be fine again

I agree that Marner is a special talent but to say that you can find a "bunch of Nick Suzuki's" is just wrong. He was on pace for over 45 points in his rookie season as a centerman. That doesn't grow on trees.

Teams don't win without top notch centermen and the only way to get them is to draft & develop them (or Boston or Buffalo feeling generous). Not having depth at that position was the great failure of every Habs team from the 2000's till now, where it's still not too much of a strength. Plus there's no guarantee that Lundell has an easier time adjusting to the NHL than KK, Poehling, Mittelstadt, Jost or Bennett.

The number of non leaf fans claiming to be Leaf fans and then giving one of the core away for garbage or just massively short sighted trades is why I need weed.

The Jackets turn that deal down easily. We don't need more wingers so Johnsson isn't a help even if we were doing Andy straight up, and paying in pick position for the privilege makes it even more unpalatable.

Probably not the best wording but I’ll say this. I like Suzuki but he’s not that special. 45 points in a rookie year is nice but he also spent two years in the ohl. Kk was 10 less points at a young 18. This year I believe Rossi, lundell and lapierre could be as strong if not stronger than Suzuki. Yes nothing is curtain with kids but Suzuki being better than he is now is no guarantee either. I just think that when a stud like marner comes around you take him and take your chances with kk and lundell being a good 1-2 punch. If there was no lundell I’d be way more sceptical of the trade, but lundell should be available

I agree with most of your statement, however I'm not as optimistic about Lundell and especially Lapierre as you are (though Rossi will definitely be a stud and gone by MTL's pick). Also, sure Suzuki doesn't look like he'll be as special as Marner but he has had a comparable 20 year old season as players like Horvat, Hertl, Couturier, Zibanejad, Scheifele and Larkin with most being pretty close to untouchable for their teams today.

I get your points but I guess we'll just have to disagree on this one.
