If Domi goes to a division rival it'll have to be an offersheet or overpaying in a trade. Montreal won't give the guy to a team fighting for the same playoff spots.

MTL will be rebuilding in a year or so? Have you not been paying attention to them being in the lottery lately?

Whether that's true or not doesn't change the fact that this is a **** offer for Domi and MTL wouldn't accept it.

How is mid-6 center, 1st round pick and two offensive prospects ****ty offer for Domi?

They aren't fighting for a playoff spot though.

Being objective here, I don't think it makes sense for TO to pay such a premium for him. I like Domi but I think he's closer to Kapanen on the team than anything else. A middle six player that can have a great season every once and a while but is also an agitator. I think he's going to get too much on his next contract as well.

A 1st, a middle 6 player and a pretty good centre prospect is a decent haul for another middle 6 forward which is exactly what Domi is.

then why the hell bother swapping a 1st a middle 6 and a pretty good (maybe 3rd liner?) prospect for another middle 6 forward? domi is a significant upgrade over kerfoot and sda. bracco isnt a value add im sorry but he gives you no trade value.

I didn't propose this trade. I wouldn't have. I am all for staying the course with the Leafs. If there was a fair deal to get Domi and then sign him to a deal that fit with the Leafs cap, I'd be all for it. Alas, he's going to want to get big money or at least more than what I think he's worth. I'd welcome Domi at 4.5 million for 3 years and find a way to make that fit but I doubt it happens.

It's a classic quantity over quality trade. It looks like a lot but when you look closer it isn't really.

Kerfoot is a fine player but he's never hit 50 points (or even 45) and I don't expect he'll ever do more than once or twice in his career. For Domi 50 points is the floor and he got 72 without any elite offensive players around him.

Bracco is a big question mark. He had one amazing season in the AHL then followed it up with a less impressive one. He could be good but he's not a gamble I'd be willing to pay Domi for. SDA is a decent prospect but also is more likely to become a fringe NHLer.

As for the 1st; great but a pick in the mid/late 20's is unlikely to have an impact over the next 5 years, if at all.

If you guys were trading Nylander you'd want 1 piece that you could look at and say "yes, this'll work" not a bunch of pieces the other team doesn't want any more. Same thing here.

due to his 72 point season last year i see that number closer to 6 than it is to 4. Which domi are you getting though 72 point domi or 45 point domi... thats why i wouldnt want to be the team that ultimately signs him. but i think you are undervaluing the player he has top line potential just whether he plays like it or not is different.

I think if he plays with top line players he'll produce but is he a top line player on his own? I don't see it. I think he's a 50-60 point player and would be an incredible depth guy to have at the right price. If you are paying him to be a top flight player, you are not going to be happy I think.

And MTL seeing him as a genuine top 6 player is why Domi to TOR is extremely unlikely to happen (along with him not fitting into TOR cap structure as you stated later in the thread).
