You could do a scenario where Burns is waives to go to Buffalo , but then is traded immediately to a team who can send a young center and a first in return, because Burns has value all by himself, but it would involve a third team. That would be the only way San Jose has slight chance to even put forward an offer worth considering

Realistically, San Jose cannot acquire Eichel and put a good team around him, and in two years, Eichel will want to be traded out of San Jose with no draft picks and a shallow prospect pool that isnt helped by not having a first rounder in a strong class. There is talent on the Sharks, but for them to win like Eichel desires, It wont happen when they traded half their team to get him

I agree after seeing this team, I just thought it would be a fun thing to look at. You are right though I dont think this team is very good, maybe only slightly better than the Sabres

The sharks have a ton of real high quality assets on their team, and if they choose to go full on rebuild and go young...... they'll have a ton to work with, but they also have a ton tied up into long term contracts now with guys like Karlsson and Couture, and Vlasic

Agreed. I think the best choice is doing their best to be good, but not moving any young assets for the foreseeable future.

San Jose shouldn't be trading Meier, and Burns doesn't have that value by himself because he's in his 30s and at 8 million per, he's hardly a bargain. I rather pay Pietrangelo 9.5+, or if I want to go the cheap route I could pay Shattenkirk around 5 million and keep my assets in both scenarios. With a flat cap for the follow season at least, it's tough to imagine anyone willing to get older and take on Burns' contract. Shattenkirk, Barrie, Pietrangelo, and Schultz are four defensemen that would be viable options for teams interested.

I actually didn't realize Burns was 35 with 5 years left.......check that he has no value

Yep, and no team needs that contract on the books with the uncertainties oof future cap ceilings.

Thing is tho, the culture in SJ is vastly different than Buffalo, win or lose. Probably not going to be as much pressure on him from media, etc.
