Win 1OA - Sign Hall - Cirelli OS - Gaudreau Trade

Créé par: BurnEmUp
Équipe: 2020-21 Flames de Calgary
Date de création initiale: 2 juill. 2020
Publié: 2 juill. 2020
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
This is not enough for Gaudreau in my opinion, should have probably added a decent prospect as well. This also creates a problem on D for the Flames in the expansion draft, unless they plan on leaving Gio exposed they will have to flip Hanifin prior to the ED taking place. I would hope they'd just expose Gio though, he will be 37 at the time.

Swinging for the damn fence, are ya?

I'd like to see how you handle your cap situation in 4 years.

Also, that's cheap for Hall (see Panarin, Artemi).

Cirelli's not a 6M player probably 4-5M. 5 years walks him straight to UFA. Gaudreau is worth that but NJ is not going to pay that

Cirelli is 22 and just scratching the surface. You are gambling that he will be worth that and more and you need to have an AAV that the Bolts can't match and that no other team will out bid. Who cares if he goes to UFA in 5 years? Any more term than that and the offer sheet compensation gets too pricey, and at that point he will be 27 and if he's a stud you can re-sign him. You don't have to sign every player for 6, 7 or 8 years.

Why would Calgary protect a 38-year old defenseman with one year remaining on his contract? I get that he's your captain, but that's just bad asset management.

At the end of last season I said Giordano wouldnt come close to last years stats this season. Flames fans as well as others wanted my head. Everyone had something to say about it. And then he put up half the production.

I'm not questioning whether he's a still good player. Even if he was Nic Lidstrom, you shouldn't protect a 38-year old on the last year of his deal.

So let's say Seattle takes him. Let him go play there for a year, but make it clear to him that if he does get selected he'll be welcome back. then re-sign him to his end of career contract in July 2022.

Asset management.

Hall is older, costs more, and is worse than Gaudreau. How is that managing anything other than managing to get a 1st overall next year

Ughhhh Panarin? You're joking right? Hall at most gets 9 million. With this flat cap likely less if he wants a long term deal

Seriously?

Sign Hall a top line LW
Trade Johnny for futures and/or to fill holes in the roster

Ends up a net positive asset wise.

Thats asset management 101

You have to find a buyer for Gaudreau, and whos going to give up a top pair dman, and 2 firsts, one of which probably will be between 3-8

Haha, yeah I'm sure it will be tough to find someone who would want the 4th highest producing left winger in the league over the last 5 seasons and 17th highest forward over all, especially when his cap hit for two seasons is only $6.75 million and players who produce like he does are getting $10 million + AAV on UFA deals nowadays. That kind of production with that kind of a cap hit when the cap is going to stay flat for the next 2-3 seasons will be worth a fortune in a trade if the Flames decide to trade him. Not to mention he has no trade protection what so ever and the Flames can trade wherever and whenever they want to.

lol who gives a crap what fans think? They don't have a say.

Fans are idiots and over value draft picks, especially this time of year. It's hilarious. The odds of them getting a player as good as Gaudreau with any of their picks , especially the 13th overall is less than 5%. GMs are smart enough to know that, and are under tremendous pressure to put a winning product on the ice. How beneficial would it be for the Devils to have a perennial all-star like Gaudreau on the wings of their two young franchise C's as they try find a foot hold in the league? The confidence they'd get having Gaudreau help them find the score sheet regularly and taking some of the pressure off of them?

Your comment is pretty ironic - does this mean we shouldn't give a crap about what you say? Man, the function of this AGM tool is to give fans a fun platform to express their opinions and argue/discuss the value of players to create a fantasy roster. I think you're taking this a little too seriously.

Also, this trade is awful, and NJ will never take it.

lol, I don't care if you take me seriously or not.

Gaudreau is worth way more than a couple of magic beans, if he's traded we will see.

It's funny, the guy I was having a discussion with said that Gaudreau is way better than Hall, well did we just see what an NHL GM traded for two months of Hall? Just imagine what an NHL GM would give up for two years of Gaudreau then....
