Description
Let me put this bluntly. This will be tough and it makes me upset. That Faulk contract is a difficult hurdle and it's likely that the Seattle expansion team will not kindly take Faulk or Bozak or Steen (also that losing both Bozak and Steen would be too big of a blow so one will stay) More likely it will be Sundqvist or Blais or Bortuzzo going. I think the Blues protect Sundqvist so I'll use Blais. For this I will use a trade to WPG for a 7th as a sub for the expansion pick

Pietrangelo, even with a recessed market, likely won't settle for 9.5 or he would have already done it so he probably takes 10 and plays 2 years hoping to cash in on a new CBA. Dunn is still looking at 3 I bet, I'm not sure RFA guys will see much value sapped so much as the UFAs and big names

I think Vancouver is a good landing spot for Allen, they have a lot of cap space even after resigning Toffoli and the RFAs but they don't have sign Pietro or Barrie money and they likely don't get Holtby who seems to be likely to go back to the Caps. So it's Lehner or a trade for them. They also could probably use the RD not getting Barrie or Pietrangelo so Bortuzzo makes sense

Husso and Mikkola are ready for promotion though keeping Mikkola as a 7th D is probably a LOT more palatable for the Blues but to keep Dunn and Pietro if any other D are lost he will have to make the jump

The Devils also have cap space but only really need LD. They have 3 firsts this year or next and loads of young talent after drafting 1st overall 2/3 years (Taylor Hall is actual draft magic my friends!) so they can spare a 2nd. They probably splash and get like Krug and Dillen but that's about it still leaving a lot of cap. I think they would be happy to have Steen as a leadership, surprisingly good 4th liner, defensively skilled forward for a year

With Steen and likely a forward like Blais leaving I doubt the Blues will trust two of Walker, Kostin and Foley to make the jump so I bet they sign a roster filler min forward

Man this will be painful. At least Parayko-Scandella will be around a while

Steen will cost a 1st to move out or at minimum a couple 2nds. No team will give you a pick for him.

Also you're not getting enough in that Vancouver trade.

Also Pietrangelo wouldn't take a 2 year 10M deal. He's gonna look for term on this next contract. If you want 2 year look at paying him 15M.

I would LOVE to give him term I'm thinking the 2 years because the market value will be sapped but he'll rightly want his 10. If I could signed him at 8x9 or 8x95. I jump all over that
The Vancouver trade messed up somehow. that was supposed to be for Gaudet who gets flipped in the Steen dump. My browser must be doing weird things and it messed up every trade except the Seattle expansion placeholder, nice to see all my work get messed up like that, lol. Not even sure how a Vancouver 7th got added , that shouldn't have been there at all

can you be less "Blunt" and more "helpful". Also with the trade weirdness being brought to my attention could you look at my last comment so we can understand better

did you read the description where I specifically pointed this out to be a placeholder for the expansion draft?

VAN decline, they are trying to shed salary. Also they will re-sign Markstrom.

Vancouver is trying to shed salary? I mean I believe you, I'm not the all knower of the ins and outs of other teams, but why?
They have 18 in space for Toffoli RFAs and a D and goalie (which Allen and Bortz take care of) if Ferland is broken like long long term, and Toffoli walks and they use that money for Ferland if his concussion clears up by next year. Do they expect Motte or Vertanen to get really expenisve? So they want to have no RD in favor of keeping Toffoli and a healthy Ferland? Are they gonna chase Taylor Hall? Why would they want to shed cap? i don't mean to sound like I'm pushing back, I'm genuinely and humbly curious, I'm just also totally befuddled

You've misread VAN's situation. They don't have a lot of cap space, and likely won't be able to re-sign Toffoli. Markstrom (the only FA goalie you didn't mention) will be their priority signing if they don't think Demko is ready to take on more starts yet.

Having said that, I could see Allen as a decent fit if the acquisition cost isn't too high and Markstrom walks to another team. But that acquisition cost is not Gaudette. There are other good 1-year goalie options out there that can be had for less than a good young 3C with upside and team control. I think Allen could fetch a 3rd round pick.

Ah that makes sense. Also didn't realize Gaudette had much upside. Thought he was a run of the mill young bottom 6 c (a good young bottoms 6 c but nonetheless) so I underestimated both the Markstrom returning interest and Gaudettes value. Yeah I would not mind Allen going for the pick nonetheless which would make it a bit of a better fit though I doubt Bortz goes with him then and that raises the cost of the Steen dump.

Oof this might be a rough offseason, lose Pietro or absolute shenanigan hell frown

Yeah, I really don't see how STL signs Pietro unless he takes a BIG discount, and even then the team will need to shed some cap. I feel like they'd be better off long-term to let Pietro walk and try to lock up Dunn to a long-term deal with a nice value cap hit. Faulk definitely has a bad contract, but he should be fine as a 2RD behind Parayko, who most teams would love to throw on their top pairing.
