This is a bad trade for TO. I really do like Laine, but he's not a complete player. Nylander offers more skills that fit TO's system better, he has more term and Liljegren I think will be a good defenceman in the coming years. No thanks, interesting proposal though.

Leafs wont do that. When it comes to elite goalscorers, I think Matthews and Tavares are enough. And Nylander scored 31 goals which is more than Laine last year and this year in less games.

That powerplay is disgusting though. Laine and Matthews on the wings for one timers.

It's already disgusting and Nylander is a better 5v5 player.

Jets never do that. He is the face of the franchise after wheeler retires (as much as i would like to say scheifele is, the goal scorer usually is). The jets have plenty of really good top 6 forwards, but in terms of elite goal scoring, laine is the only guy we have (i don’t think connor will be a 50 goal scorer but I could be wrong). This isn’t enough for him either.

And to address the above comments on saying laine isn’t a complete player, he is now so that’s wrong.

Arguably, along with scheifele and Connor, he was our best forward. Scheifele and Connor were paired with each other all year. Laine didn’t have a real 2c half the season and still ended up near pt/gm. He had ehlers though, who is a puck possession demon 😂, but that still doesn’t take away from how well laine played this season. The goals will come and he will get back to being a top goal scorer soon

Usually the face of the franchise is a centre. Just saying.

Also you don't need elite goal scoring to win cups. Look at the St.Louis Blues.

Yeah but living in WPG, everyone who doesn’t watch hockey (not a lot of people here 😂) will know laine more often than scheifele. As much as scheifele should be, laine is. Just a fact. Everyone loves him. He’s a charismatic guy and is fun to watch on the ice. Everyone knows scheifele is our best player but laine is the face of the franchise regardless (after wheeler retires)

I’m not saying you do, but moving laine really hurts our offence. I know we have an embarrassment of riches on forward but even considering that, laine is going to hit 50 goals some day. Which is something I don’t think any jets will do. Our power play is also built around him. Nylander likely wouldn’t even be on our first pp.

The blues won because they had a complete team. Without laine, even if we get a 2c and shore up the d, we wouldn’t win one imo. Anyways, if I were to trade laine it would be for a superior player not for nylander, who would be our 5th best forward.

Easy pass by the Leafs. Even if Laine is the superior player, don't know what his salary be a year from now. Leafs need the 7m cap certainty of Nylander

Laine was never gonna happen. Toronto and Winnipeg had different needs at the time so whoever got the 1OA back in 2016 it did not matter. Laine was the last piece the jets needed in completing their roster as they had a solid center core at the time. Toronto needed Matthews as they needed a star center to complete their roster. Basically a win-win for both teams.

If the jets got 1OA they would have grabbed Laine and Toronto at 2nd matthews.

Yeah I don’t think so. As much as I would say little was good and all, the jets were still rebuilding and Matthews was the better player. The jets would have likely take Matthews and either shift little to the wing or let him walk as a UFA in 2019.
