Description
Just one of a few ways that STL could manage the cap if Pietrangelo re-signs in STL.

Capitals get 1 year of Allen to split starts with Samsonov in case they can't find a good free agent that only wants 1 year term.

Buffalo takes Bozak to get Sanford. Bozak helps take defensive minutes while Cozens develops and then he probably gets flipped at the deadline.

Blues could sign someone like Trevor Lewis to round out the bottom six after losing veterans like Bozak and Steen. Or if they don't trust DLR and Mac^2 to fill that gap before Kostin is ready.

I like it. Would be nice to get a stronger backup than Brossoit, though idk who that would be other than maybe Husso if he's ready. Also think Kostin should get a look in that bottom six RW spot as well.

Hmm, I’d refer to keep Sanford until he demands a sizable raise. He popped 16 goals and the analytics look pretty solid from both of the past two seasons. I think next season one of Sanford or Blais could really explode and make the other expendable.

Yeah it probably isn't the best time to move Sanford until we know what we have in Blais, Kostin, Kyrou, etc. I just like the idea of Kyrou with ROR-Perron as the mail carrier in transition and if he can stick in the top six then we could get away with moving someone along with Bozak to get a deal done. Obv best case scenario is we are able to move Steen and/or Bozak without any sweeteners.

Not gonna lie the mocks without Pietrangelo and with everyone else staying put (and Dunn getting a Girard-like contract) don't look half-bad...

Yeah it's still a competitive team without him, but I still prefer the mocks with him here smile

The chances of Bozak waiving to play in buffalo is very slim.

I agree and bet hard it would be Sanford, he was on a 40 point pace with full time play last year and is on a 30 point /82 career so his production seems middle 6 already and in flashes looks like it could even go up. He also has a positive Corsi% and XG% last year and career.
Blais is even Corsi and negative xG% last year and career, does not have amazing flashes of brilliance, is on just under a 20 point pace with full time play (but around 25 last year), he mostly just doesn't look lost on top 6 lines and hits guys but on the plus side his zone entries and exits are very high meaning he theoretically gets the puck up ice well (assuming that's not just linemeates grabbing attention but the numbers are good enough there should be at least some skill there) and put up big point totals in the high minors so I bet there is some potential but the numbers, eye test, all point to Sanford

I agree, but I think there’s an outside chance of Blais becoming a beast. As you mentioned, his puck-carrying ability is elite and he also is pretty untouchable off the cycle. He needs to stop holding onto the puck so long after entering the zone and just make a pass or take it to goal. It also seems like all of his passes go to the point which end up wasting his possession ability. It’s funny because if they’d combine skill sets they’d make an incredible player. Imagine the defense/compete and puck-carrying ability of Blais with the finishing and offensive intelligence of Sanford.

I don't even think it's that outside of a chance, before his injury he looked the part of a top six winger. Just needs some time to figure out the offensive side of his game- like was doing pre-injury- and he could probably stick in the top six and be more effective there than Sanford. I think a Blais-Thomas-Kyrou line would be a ton of fun for the future. An obvious scorer, a playmaker, and physical/possession guy...pretty, pretty, pretty good

Could definitely see it happening, just needs some coaching.
