@Kotkaniemi15 You see, there's a way to make it work with lots of cap space left & this Montreal Canadiens team is nasty

The only problem is when we will have to sign Caufield, Suzuki, Romanov and KK to real contracts. 6mil will not be enough. We won't be able to keep a 5,5mil 3rd line LW, and Domi will most likely have to go too.

    Add : Lafrenière's contract too

Also, did you know that starting in 2021-2022, Drouind has a Modified NTC, which will make him harder to trade.

The cap will probably raise by then & Danault will be traded once Suzuki and KK passes him

Because as bad as Boychuk has been(mostly imo due to playing more games than he should), team still lacks efficient RHD depth.

You don't have much leverage, good luck re-signing Toews, Pulock & Barzal without dumping bad contracts under a flat cap, which requires giving up assets

We have excellent RHD depth. Pulock-Mayfield-Dobson.

I wouldn't do this because it's too much from NYI. I'd lower the pick and change the 6th from MTL to Jordan Weal.

Ok, and who fills in for one of those 3 if they get hurt? Did you not learn from Pelech?

Which is why Leddy and Komarov would be better off traded first.

We can always sign a depth RHD in free agency. Ceci, Pysyk, Polak, Trevor Van Riemsdyk, Holzer, Schenn.

No problem with Weal as we've discussed but that pick stays otherwise we out. For someone to take a 12M$ hit on a 7th dman the asking price will be set at a 1st and Wilde (B-Prospect), that should be the baseline for trade talks when looking to order cap dumps trades.
Also for the defensive depth Montreal could add Ouellet (Who has shown to be ok on a third pairing) or even swap Weal for Kulak.

All of those players are arguably WORSE than Boychuk!

But as a team, you don't get worse on paper. You have to consistently improve everywhere. Plenty of other salaries that can be shed.

But they'd also cost less than $1M, probably. So that's good.
