The problem with resigning Markstrom, how do you extend Hughes and Petterrsson.

Gotta think those guys are gonna get a huge pay day.

And those are not the only RFAs either.

There'd be 10M coming off in Edler and Russell here, that likely goes straight to pettersson. Somebody gets taken by seattle... either Ferland, Leivo, a goalie or Tanev in this case... that's more money off. The Spooner buyout money is over with.

Demko won't get much of a raise unless he really impresses this year. I don't think he gets claimed by seattle if not.

I'm guessing Petey goes 6-8 years in the range of 9.5M-10.5M... and Hughes likely bridges about 4 years at 7M... I'd like to see what barzal and sergachev get first though, as they are pretty decent comparable to what these two will get

They really need to dump Roussel, Beagle and obviously Eriksson somehow before then.

I agree those are good comparables.
Dont forgot regardless of who is UFA or getting calmied by Seattle... you will still need to fill those holes with players that are not playing for free.

My case is to not resign Markstrom and go get a goalie for 1 year. It's just a good choice.

And hope Demko is the man? And who's the backup cause he'll cost some $$ too, idk I guess not signing Markstrom is the easy way to go but idk if it's the best way, need solid goaltending to compete and Van is in a wide open division, they really should be going for it.

Elliott? Smith? Greiss or Khudobin? Holtby? Talbot?
Lots of options, don't know which would sign a one year deal that I'd hitch my hopes to to be a starter.

I say trade for a goalie.
Cause like you said Canucks should be going for it.

I think only Talbot would sign for 1 year of the guys you mentioned.

We can always expose markstrom in the expansion draft if this is the case.

You're making this tough Trickster.. Lol

Mrazek or Reimer? Raanta or Bernier? Allen or Jarry/Murray? Georgiev maybe?

Idk the more I think about it the more I think they're better off signing Markstrom and finding cap savings elsewhere, maybe Hughes and Pettersson are going to have to sign bridge deals idk, gonna be interesting to see where all these free agent goalies land, I forgot about Crawford and Lehner from the UFA list.. haha

Canucks did good this year largely because of Markstrom. Goalies win cups, and though I don't think Markstrom is the guy that will win this team a cup, I think he is the right guy to transition to that point. This team will take a major step backwards if we sign anyone else. This is a price we should pay.
