Potential Wild playin round roster

Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Top line is Parise-Eriksson Ek-Fiala
JEE gets top line minutes as it will be his job to shutdown Pettersson.
Fiala needs to get big minutes if the Wild want to generate offense.
I have Parise on the top line only because I would like to keep Greenway with Zuccarello, it looked like they had a bit of chemistry towards the end of the season.

The 2nd line Kaprizov-Galchenyuk-Kunin
I believe the NHLPA will win the argument and Kaprizov will be allowed to play, this line could be a complete mess depending on how fast Kaprizov can acclimate to the NHL.
Galchenyuk gets the nod as the 2nd line center, I think the Wild need to start out young in this series as it may take a bit for the older guys to get their legs under them.
Kunin is handcuffed to Galchenyuk in this series as one he is defensively responsible and he is the better option to take draws in the defensive zone.

3rd line Greenway-Staal-Zuccarello
Staal will likely take a bit to get going, but the reduced role may help him offensively.
Zuccarello hasn't fit well but I thought he and Greenway had a bit of chemistry and I think this line could provide a nice spark for the team.

4th line Foligno-Koivu-Donato
Together Koivu and Foligno can shutdown most any line and if Donato is playing with confidence he could add a touch of scoring to this line, which is the type of scoring that is essential in the playoffs.

1st Pair Suter-Spurgeon
I would love to have the top pair as Brodin and Dumba but Spurgeon is the best Wild defenseman at the moment and needs to get his minutes.

2nd pair Brodin-Dumba
If Dumba starts hot then I believe Wild swap the 1st and 2nd pair around.

3rd pair Soucy-Hunt
Wild hope Soucy hasn't regressed since play ended in March and that he and Hunt can continue to play solid together.

I'll give the nod to Kahkonen since the Wild really have to find out what he is and winning this series means very little in the grand scheme of things.
All in all Wild would be best served losing this series and getting a better draft slot. I can't really see the players wanting to lose just so they can be replaced so I expect them to play hard.

Keys to the series
- JEE vs. Pettersson
- Wild need average goaltending or better
- limit Staal, Parise, and Koivu's minutes (possibly Suters to as much as that might be possible) until they are up to speed.

X-factor is Kaprizov, can't be sure what to expect or if he will even be allowed to play.

Not yet but NHLPA is fighting for it.

Just not sure what to expect, it could be a bit of a change, but I'm also told his game is actually better suited for the NHL than the KHL. Either way pretty exciting. I've heard that the contract is already figured out he just wants to make sure he can play now before he signs it.

Parise/Staal/Fiala
Foligno/JEE/Kunin (play against Peterson line)
Greenway/Chucky/Zucc
Donato/Koivu/Hartman

It would be great if Kaprizov can play, but I'm not even penciling him into the lineup because I don't think it's likely. Put him on the 3rd line and just let him play his game.

I have 0 concerns about Suter being ready for when the games start again. He does own his own ice rink afterall. Koivu and Staal are question marks for how they play, I agree. Dumba getting to rest/heal and get out of his own head for awhile, I'm hoping will be a good thing and his game returns.

The goalie situation is the biggest question mark for the Wild. I'm hoping they get an fair/open competition for this minicamp. Whoever plays the best is the starter (goalie KK is where my money is).

Your lines are likely more accurate, I am kinda hoping the Wild try a few things since if they win great but if they lose well there is that 12.5 percent chance they pick number 1 overall.

If Wild do pick number one overall what do the do?
Lafreniere is the cream of the crop but the Wild need a center more than a LW? I assume sort of a trade would be made and if they can't then take Lafreniere and wait for a trade.

If we won 1st OA I could see a scenario where we could trad down with either LA or Ott for a haul. But I think we should just go for it and take Laffy, address our goaltending and move out players like Greenway, Donato, Boldy, Beckman, maybe even Kaprizov?, in a package with Dumba/Brodin for a top six center.

If given the opportunity, take him, address our more pressing need, and sort out the C later. If nothing else Laffy and Fiala play with Staal for a year.

Trade the 1oa for Eichel or use it on Byfield.

Good with everything you just said except maybe the Kaprizov trade part, it would have to be a very good young center coming back.

Kings are set at center so I really could see a swap where they take 1OA and Wild would get #2 OA plus then Wild could take Byfield.

We could, but Buf wont do it, not even for Laffy.

As for Byfield, Why? Would we want Byfield, sure, but LA wants Laffy more, they'll either take Stutzle or Byfield after Laffy is picked 1st OVA. Trade down a spot with LA so they can take Laffy and we get a haul from them and still pickup Byfield at 2nd OVA.

Win-win.

But as I said, I'd still go with Lafreniere. He could put us over the top. Even with Byfield, we're still 2-3 years out.

Doubt Sabres trade Eichel straight up for Lafreniere, like you say, but as part of a package I could see it, especially if Eichel wants out. I am curious as to what the package would look like.

After many hours of watching Kaprizov over the past few years, I like his game a ton for the NHL. He makes plays in tight, he's a beast along the boards and in puck battles, and he seems to thrive in sticky situations. Very skilled puck handler (his hands are incredible) and his lateral skating is very good. Hopefully the NHLPA keeps fighting and we get to see him in the NHL.

As for the roster, only thing I don't like is I want to see a playmaker feeding Kaprizov, likely Zuccarello since Parise and Fiala had some pretty amazing chemistry IMO. Kaprizov is a great playmaker himself though so that line might be good.

Ultimately as much as I hate the idea of rooting for us to lose, we're probably better served to lose and get a shot at Lafreniere. Worst case scenario we take a very good prospect at 12 (I like Mercer, but that's just me).

Just put him on a line with Foligno. Foligno makes everyone around him better. cheers

Actually, I don't want Kaprizov with a Granny/Zucc playmaker, they are too hesitant to shoot on their own. I'd rather see him on a line with another willing shooter like Kunin/Fiala. I really want a Kaprizov/JEE/Kunin line for this reason, all 3 FWDs would be shoot/pass options. It makes it harder for defenses to cheat towards one FWD and away from another. I also don't want a stacked line of Fiala/Staal/Kaprizov simply because it makes it easier for the other team to say "that's the line we need to shut down".
