Description
Personal takes:
The 2021/2022 roster obviously doesn’t look very strong and is probably a lottery/bubble team again. By then players like Hischier, Hughes, Bratt, Boqvist, Kuokkanen, Dunn, Smith and Blackwood are the young core of the franchise, have matured and taken over the team. UFA signings are all shortterm deals so the cap isn’t damaged by the time all those ELC’s run out and to make sure there are enough roster spots for our prospects to play and develop. With all those 1st round picks the farm system has gotten a ton of true impact talent and should emerge as one of the very best. Sure, if we make it this way we’re probably looking at two more years of losing and fighting for top lottery spots again but imo we’re already so deep in this mess that we now should look to make it the proper way and not damage ourselves for the time when we can’t need it (no big and longterm UFA signings, please!). This ACGM is obviously relying on a lot of our prospects to develop.

19/20 season:
- Decisions made regarding conditional draft picks that affect the Devils: Devils get a 2020 3rd round pick from CAR (Sami Vatanen) / Devils get a 2021 5th from BUF (Wayne Simmonds) / Devils receive a 2021 unconditional 1st instead of a 2020 1st from VAN because they missed the postseason (Blake Coleman via TBL) / ARI doesn't win the lottery in 2020 so the Devils get their 2020 1st round selection (Taylor Hall).
- ELC slides (now last until 2023 instead): Ty Smith / Kevin Bahl / Nikita Okhotyuk / Nolan Foote
- Montreal wins the phase 2 lottery and will select 1 OA in the 2020 NHL entry draft.

20/21 season:
- NHL and NHLPA agree to a flat cap at 81.5 mil cap for 2 seasons. There won’t be any CBO’s.
- Devils decide to give Tom Fitzgerald the GM job who hires Gerard Gallant as his head coach and Patrik Elias as one of his assistant coaches.
- The Devils don't name a captain for the 20/21 season but name a leadership group of 5 assistant captains (Zajac, Palmieri, Hischier, Severson, Subban).
- 2020 NHL entry Draft: #1 Alexis Lafreniere (MTL) / #2 Quinton Byfield (LAK) / #3 Tim Stützle (OTT) / #4 Lucas Raymond (DET) / #5 Marco Rossi (OTT) / #6 Jamie Drysdale (ANA) / #7 Alexander Holtz (NJD) / #8 Cole Perfetti (BUF) / #9 Jake Sanderson (CHI) / #10 Anton Lundell (NJD)
- The Devils sign both Alexander Holtz and Anton Lundell to ELC’s and let them stay in Europe for 20/21.
- UFA signings in 2020: Yannick Weber (1 year at 700k)
- Devils sign following players to contract extensions in the 2020 offseason: Jesper Bratt (3 years at 3.25 mil) / Joey Anderson (2 years at 925k) / Nick Merkley (2 years at 925k) / Brett Seney (2 years at 875k) / Dakota Mermis (2 years at 800k) / John Hayden (1 year at 750k) / Colton White (2 years at 800k) / Josh Jacobs (1 year at 700k) / Ben Street (1 year at 750k) / Mackenzie Blackwood (6 years at 4.5 mil) / Vince Dunn (6 years at 4.5 mil)
- Devils sign following player to a contract extension during the 20/21 season: Nikita Gusev (6 years at 7.5 mil)
- ELC slides (last until 2024): Alexander Holtz / Anton Lundell / Nikita Okhotyuk (due to a injury riddled season in 19/20 the Devils decide to send him back to the OHL as an overager for 20/21)
- Seattle ??? expansion draft: Devils protect 7/3/1
F: Hischier / Bratt / Kuokkanen / Panik / Zacha / Anderson / Borgström
D: Butcher / Dunn / Severson
G: Blackwood
Seattle selects Miles Wood (on LTIR therefore)

21/22 season:
- As mentioned above the cap stays flat at 81.5 mil.
- The Devils name Nico Hischier as their new captain. His fulltime assistants will be Zajac and Subban.
- 2021 Devils draftees: #2 RHD Brandt Clarke (NJD) / #15 G Jesper Wallstedt (VAN) #50 RHD Corson Ceulemans (NSH) / #52 LHD Jimi Suomi (WSH)
- Following Prospects sign their ELC (in brackets where they'll play): Graeme Clarke (AHL) / Aarne Talvitie (AHL) / Tyce Thompson (AHL) / Eetu Päkilä (AHL) / Brandt Clarke (Juniors) / Akira Schmid (AHL) / Michael Vukojevic (AHL) / Corson Ceulemans (Juniors) / Alexander Holtz (Devils send him back to Sweden for his D+2 season) / Anton Lundell (Devils send him back to Finland for his D+2 season)
- Devils sign following players out of UFA in 2021: Travis Zajac (1 year at 2.75 mil) / Jason Demers (2 years at 2.5 mil) / Alexander Steen (1 year at 2.75 mil) / Chad Ruhwedel (2 years at 750k)
- Devils sign following players to contract extensions in the 2021 offseason: Janne Kuokkanen (2 years at 1.8 mil) / Gilles Senn (2 years at 925k) / Nathan Bastian (2 years at 825k) / Yegor Sharangovich (2 years at 825k) / David Quenneville (1 year at 800k) / Henrik Borgström (2 years at 1.25 mil)
- Devils buyout following player in the 2021 offseason: Corey Schneider (results in a 2 mil caphit for the 21/22 and the 22/23 season)
- Devils Top Prospects at the start of the 21/22 season: #1 Brandt Clarke / #2 Alexander Holtz / #3 Anton Lundell / #4 Jesper Wallstedt / #5 Nolan Foote / #6 Corson Ceulemans / #7 Kevin Bahl / #8 Jimi Suomi / #9 Tyce Thompson / #10 Aarne Talvitie / #11 Arseni Gritsyuk / #12 Nikola Pasic / #13 Patrick Moynihan / #14 Nikita Okhotyuk / #15 Daniil Misyul / #16 Graeme Clarke / #17 Akira Schmid / #18 Fabian Zetterlund / #19 Eetu Pakkila / #20 Yegor Sharangovich

Nino will cost more than that

You cannot get the Vatanen pick because it "upgrades" from a 4th. But he didn't play enough games to qualify

I belive Carolina will just be happy to have him off the books by then. But what would a "fair" price be in your opinion?

You cannot get the Vatanen pick because it "upgrades" from a 4th. But he didn't play enough games to qualify

I think both teams will renegociate that if the NHL resumes and Vatanen plays enough... But it's not like that pick would make mch off a difference for the Devils or this ACGM.

I highly disagree. Nino plays one of the best defensive games in the NHL and has 60 point upside in a usual season. His hands went cold this year, doesn't mean he's worth as little as a third. Only way I can see him being traded is in a package for a top 6 upgrade. Otherwise, why move him? His contract isn't bad and he's SOOO GOOD defensively.

For Vatanen, the teams don't get to decide that. Paperwork is set out to the NHL, and the NHL decides. I also think the way it's worded being "Upgrades" suggests that they'll say no pick is transfered.

That's funny because he seems to have a cold hand basically every 2nd season.

Yes, they do. The league hasn't yet made a official call on regular season conditions. So yes, the teams will have the opportunity to renegociate and if they aren't able to agree on something, the league will decide.

Panik, 3rd for 7th is not necessary at all from the Caps side.

Except he doesn't. This is his worst career season production-wise ever. His hands weren't even bad, the dude was just so unlucky. I swear he could have bought 99/100 lottery tickets and still lost. He was that unlucky.

The NHL has already said the season is over, which means the clubs don't have the ability to go back and edit conditions post-trade. It's in the CBA, after the season all decisions fall to the NHL. This way it preserves relationships between GM's and encourages trading etc. Also, if you're Carolina, why would you want to give up the pick when the conditions were clearly not met? If you're New Jersey, why wouldn't you want the pick? It's going to go to the NHL not the clubs.

Yes this deal might not be necessary for them. But I think with a flat cap they might want to spend their money on defense/goaltending rather than foward playing 4th line minutes.

I wouldn't either. He would just be such a good fit in Jersey imo.

Nino was a 0.43 ppg player this season. If you look at his career you'll see that he has multiple seasons in the 0.4 - 0.5 ppg range (even without taking his Isanders time into consideration) so it's not like he really had an off year in term of production.. It's just what you're getting with him.

Teams will have the opportunity to make their arguments about trade conditions. All that's said for now is that the play-in round isn't considered to be part off the playoffs.

I lowered the price because I'm also taking 4 mil off your books with Allen. If only Dunn was in the deal I'd do the Vancouver first + Reilly Walsh but not if I'm also taking on Allen.

Jake Allen had an excellent season, someone will pay a 3rd or a 4th for him...

              Maybe, maybe not... We'll see.

I'm not sold on teams taking on cap for free/little with the financial situation this pandemic has put us in.

Columbus has no use for yet another wing. We’d rather keep the pick and Vehvilainen vs adding another RW. We already have. Atkinson, Bjorkstrand, Bremstrom and still currently have Anderson. No need to add another. Columbus needs a center.

Looking at Columbus being one of the worst goalscoring teams in the NHL I figured they could use someone like Palmieri. If it's not Columbus, fine... I was more focused on the price for Palmieri as a rental (2nd + a decent prospect) than where he actually might end up or not.

Yeah, Columbus does need more goal scoring, but a wing isn’t the position of need in Columbus. We have too many at this point. We need a play driving 2nd line center. So unless you’d want to move Zacha, Columbus isn’t interested. Maybe we’d have some interest in Gusev as he wasn’t great in the NHL last year and would be a 1st line LW that could replace Panarin.

As for the return it’s a good idea for a 2nd and a decent prospect. That being said Vehvilainen is better then you think he is. He had some amazing number in Liiga in Finland with good number in the AHL last year on an awful Cleveland team that would have been competitive in the ECHL (due to injuries in Columbus).

You might have enough wingers for now.. But that might look different one year from now because of onjuries, bad performances,...

Zacha might become available in the future but I'd rule him out right now.

This statement is true for his first 30 games, after that he was great and probably our best forward. Gusev isn't available as long as we haven't talked with him about an extension.
