Mode - plafond salarial: Basique

Description

This is a challenge issued by user NoHate. Here's how the challenge goes:

1.) Randomly select a team to trade with
2.) Randomly select 3 random players to trade for
3.) Make a fair trade for the players selected

How I randomly selected the team and players:

For the team I closed my eyes and pushed the up and down arrows for 10 seconds.

For the players I did a random number selection on Google. Whatever numbers came up I would count from 1 (Josh Archibald) to whatever player the corresponding number selected.

So in this scenario I got Logan Day, then Darnell Nurse, then James Neal...exactly the players the Wild need.

Although Darnell Nurse is a valuable asset...James Neal drags down the value. It wasn't clarified if I could add picks to Edmonton's side as part of the trade, but I figured that would defeat the purpose. So I went with an equal cap dump instead. I figured Zucc holds more value (in this scenario he waives for EDM) and Logan Day can be the sweetener to equal Neal vs. Zucc.

So now I'm left with Darnell Nurse. I don't think there's a good player comparison so I decided to trade a late 2020 1st and 2021 3rd for him. Is this trade fair?

Also...If anyone wants to trade for a defender in this imaginary world...I've got you

Not nearly enough for Nurse. I realize that MIN doesn't NEED another LHD, but you still have to pay FMV.

I agree, but I do think the point of the challenge is to find a fair trade for those 3 players only. Otherwise I would've traded Brodin and sent back picks from Edmonton for the Neal cap dump and to even the value between Brodin and Nurse. Was a fun challenge...just wish I had different players coming back!

Did you really think a late 1st and a 3rd was good enough for a 25-year-old 1st pairing defenseman who is 6'4, skates like the wind and has a mean streak a mile wide? Especially considering he puts up a lot of points for a defender.

That's a fair assessment. Of course, in this hypothetical world, I think I would get fired for this trade. The moment i looked at the 3 players I got I thought, "Dear God, in what universe would we trade for these 3 assets?" It really was a lose lose situation from the outset

I think I might've constructed the most expensive Defense in history with this trade. The 7 defenders almost cost as much as the 13 forwards lol

Too bad you aren't reasonable at all. The pick you offered has less than a 15% chance of becoming a top-3 defenseman, and Nurse is more than a top-3 defenseman. He's 2nd in the entire league in 5v5 TOI over the past 3 years and 7th for points, tied with Victor Hedman.

And Oilers are in win-now mode, so any trade of a prime player will have to return the same. GTFO with your late 1st - Holland wouldn't even answer the phone.

Ready to right my wrongs, I asked you a simple question, "What do you think is a fair market value for Nurse?" Yet, you have still failed to answer my simple question. I'm no expert in hockey operations, and will never claim to be. So I just wanted your opinion on what Darnell Nurse is worth. Yet you decided to freak out instead.

I'm sorry, but when did he ever once mock you? That seems like a bit of a stretch.

To be quite frank, your off in value yourself if you think Nurse rates both Fiala and Kaprizov. He might be an elite 1LD, but elite 1LD aren't so rare that they justify that kind of return. If you were to get that sort of return from us we has better be trading for an elite 1C. You know, a Barzal, Barkov, RNH, Mathews, McDavid, Eichel type of center.

Not for a 1LD, sorry.

If MN could get an elite 1C for Fiala + Kaprizov + late 1st they would have done it already.

No, it's not. There's a pretty big discrepancy between mocking and sarcasm. Those comments are certainly sarcastic, but I wouldn't call them mocking.

As for Fiala and Kaprizov. Of course they wouldn't, not for an upper echelon 1C. The Wild would have to sell the farm on our current crop of picks in addition to those two to even get into the conversation and would still likely lose out.

Fiala's current value to the Wild is likely sitting at a Debrincat level, maybe a Marner/Nylander.

Kaprizov is currently the best prospect currently outside the NHL. Worldwide. That puts him on par with Fiala in terms of value.

understandable, it's the best I could do for this challenge. Like I said in my details, we wouldn't make very good trade partners anyways. Just happened to be the team and players that were selected
