Johnny Hockey to North Jersey

Créé par: LouRules
Équipe: 2020-21 Devils du New Jersey
Date de création initiale: 15 juin 2020

Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
Devils take on $12 million in Gaudreau and Lucic's contracts with the intentions of both extending Johnny and buying out Looch after the 2020-21 season. Miles Wood takes on Lucic's physical role in Calgary. Boqvist is a very skilled lottery ticket. And the cap flexibility gives them the chance to sign hometown hero Taylor Hall. The VAN pick comes in at 17th overall.

Devils get a 26 year old Jersey born first line player on a two year deal and have the cap flexibility before the Hughes and Smith contracts to take on the Lucic hit.

Flames pass. Offer up NJ 2020 first and we consider it but def not for vancouvers.

You are offering:
A 25 year old averaging 25 pts a year
A mid / late mid pick (17th overall)
An ok prospect who has not shown that he can handle the big leagues

For

An all star who averages 74 pts a season and is a premier set up man

Just so the flames can offload a bad contract?

Pass

I’m not sure Lucic bonus structure buying out is ever an option

It’s not (unless nhl offers compliance buyout). Still not worth sacrificing Gaudreau to offload it

If the Flames decide to move Gaudreau, I highly doubt they water down his value by adding Lucic to the deal.

Besides, the Flames like Lucic. He's useful, just has a cap hit that's about $3 million too high.

Not bad for the Flames actually, they could sign some decent free agents with that cap space and Lucic's contract is a real anchor.

If the Flames waited another year and decided to trade Gaudreau what are they getting for him?
Idk if it's all that much more and getting rid of Lucic would make a HUGE difference, signing Toffoli and Granlund would make up for the loss of Gaudreau and would make the Flames top 6 a lot more complete, with Lucic eating up so much cap space there isn't enough to add to their top 6 which is what Calgary really needs to do.

The Flames like Lucic and Lucic loves playing in Calgary. He’s way overpaid but they won’t move him

I think your description of the Devils package is fair (which is rare, this board often gets snarky).

Your description of Gaudreau is also fair (although only two years of control for someone you’re sure is leaving dampens it).

But calling Lucic a bad contract is an understatement when looking at likely a couple years of a flat cap in the covid era. The price to take on that 15 million commitment is at least another mid-late first. So it really hurts a team that should be in its championship window with talent up and down the lineup like Calgary.

I appreciate the acknowledgment. I try to be unbiased and I agree the site gets WAY to snarky way to easy. Anyways yes lucic’s contract is horrible no disagreement there. But it is horrible management to dilute a talent like Gaudreaus for the sake of ridding ourselves of one contract. I assume NJ fans wouldn’t sell Hughes for pennies on the dollar to rid themselves of subban or Schneider (nor should they). As far as the Gaudreau having 2 years left, no where has he said he would go to philly. Flames have been offering him up mainly for one of 2 reasons

1) treliving said he would blow up the core if they didn’t perform and most fans thought we have not performed this year

2) the news of hometown boy hall wanting to Pull a JT and come home makes it easier to let Gaudreau go.

Even if he does leave for Philly in 2 years ALOT can happen. NJ is close to home and after a couple years giroux and voracek will be closer to retirement, Hayes and JVRs contracts will still be hurting them where as he will have time to gel with Hughes on an upcoming team rather than a fading one in philly. 2 years is still decent term on a very good contract

I’ve seen you and zyyyp say this on every Devils thread that dares to make moves to help the team now. Do you really think the Devils are that terrible? Did you think they were awful entering the season after Subban Hughes and Gusev? Are they all busts after disappointing seasons?

Sick and tired of it. Yes the team fell flat on its face to start the season and stuck with an awful system that consistently left their D overmatched. But this is the NHL, there is really great parity. Look at all the teams who have traded future firsts and crashed.

I get you’re probably upset that the season sucked and they will likely lose the lotto tomorrow, but if you’re going to act as an authority on what the Devils might do this offseason, and comment on every post, at least give them a chance.

The Subban move looks bad, the Gusev move is great, Hughes needs 30 lbs and 4 days at the gym! Do you think this team is ready to contend next year? Wow! Other than Severson (not counting Smitty) the whole D should be jettisoned!

But this is the NHL, there is really great parity. Look at all the teams who have traded future firsts and crashed. So I don't get your point, I am saying (zyyyp is too) don't trade firsts build on them and is JG is availble for cheaper (he will be) and we have grown our assets to be players, THEN you can move a first and change. Doing so now is dumb. You have your centers figured out and ideally the goalie, that's it!

I get you’re probably upset that the season sucked and they will likely lose the lotto tomorrow, but if you’re going to act as an authority on what the Devils might do this off-season, and comment on every post, at least give them a chance.
I have watched this team since day 1 as a season ticket holder, "authority" is too strong but I've been here for a while! We have been building for 7 friggin years, its not just this one! You want to move for JG and if they tank two more yrs he's gone, what do you have then, NOTHING! Get your house in order, get a President, a GM, a coach and start to move towards it. I don't want to trade any player who is showing promise but make moves that will bear fruit in 1-2 yrs, use your cap to your advantage, take some contracts for some young players, like they did with Palms (perfect example)
