they have basically identical stats.... just curious why you went one way or the other

both identical stats, both goal scorers, Stamkos had 2 Rocket Richard trophies, i'll say Stamkos

Stamkos contributed more to Tampa than Matthews did to TOR but it's close. And that's only by seeing their stats in a minute, I would need more time for a complete analysis but confident it's #91.

Stammer and Matthews have an identical ppg this season. Iunno why people think stammer fell off

i agree. Stammer is great. i made this bc people tend to glorify Matthews and diminish stammer. both are amazing players... this should help to eliminate generational bias... i think /Matthews ceiling is the same as stamkos

Stamkos doesn't get enough pub because he plays in Florida.
Matthews gets to much hype because he plays in Toronto.

Stamkos took a discount to help his team.(their cap probs aren't related to his contract) cough, vasilevski...
Matthew scraped for every dollar he could and his team is in a cap in part due to his contract.

Stamkos acts mature and is a leader in the organization.
Matthews is immature and got arrested...

Stamkos was better in every way.

The numbers are pretty close, but Matthews has done it at a time where scoring is way up league wide. When Stamkos entered the league, there just weren't as many players who could score like that. Stammer also had two Rockets in his first 4 years.

Hard to say. Probably Stamkos, but I'm quite sure Stamkos played more minutes per game than Matthews which helped his stats. Also, Matthews is the best even strength goalscorer since entering the league. So it's close IMO

if Matthews took the same % of the team cap as Stamkos did he would make like 9.5million

and that's way more reasonable...if tavares/marner took that as well, the leafs save about 5 mil and have a shot at pietrangelo...

this is one of the main reasons i say Matthews is overpaid... LEaf fans go bananas when you say that. $$$ and term are awful for his contract

Imo Stamkos. Back when he started we had probably the lowest amount of goals in the whole league history, yet his numbers are absolutely insane.

and he scored 60 goals! his rookie year sucked but the next 3 years he was incredible

this is why I don't think Matthews is Mcdavid type or the next Crosby ….I think Stamkos level is his ceiling which is still amazing but Leafs fans tend to glorify his accomplishments when they literally identical to Stamkos

I mean the leafs haven’t had a centre as good as stamkos in a LONGGGG time so they should take it! (Sundin’s best years on toronto weren’t as good as Stamkos so I don’t even count him)

Stammer had a bad 1st year, after that he has 2 Rocket Richard's in 3 years when Ovechkin is in his prime, one was shared with Crosby of all people

To be fair, his first rocket win was due to Ovechkin not playing the full season, but a win's a win all the same.

This was an interesting one. Stammer had the better first 4 years, but I enjoyed looking deeper into this. It's funny that both were the 2nd best goal scorers through the first 4 years of their careers and they're 2nd to the same guy (Ovechkin), despite being drafted 8 years apart. Ovi is just a monster.
