Description
Trade with Minnesota- Wild get younger players with control and high skill level, divesting older players and salary. It costs them a pick but getting Sandin and Johnsson is better for their rebuild. Toronto gets a top 3C that is experienced and deadly (Matthews, Tavares and Staal (who grew up cheering on TO).

On Edmonton, Leafs purge Salary they cannot afford and pick up assets they can use or trade (Bear, Lavoie, 2nd). This trade is primarily to get under the cap - with a team who needs fast, strong wingers (or a depth 3C).

Oilers reject. And Toronto rejects the Minny trade. Only way they should deal Sandin is if it gets them someone like Carlo, Pesce, Parayko etc

Absolutely awful trade for the Leafs. Leafs would be 100 times better keeping Sandin at 1m, signing a UFA at 5m than trading for 6m Dumba (just because he shoots right)

Normally I would agree but a top four of

Muzzin-Dumba
Rielly-holl

Would be lethal.

Anytime I see a leafs armchair team that has a trade with the oilers, I take a peek to see how overvalued the leafs fan thinks his players are. This takes the cake as the best one in a while...

so far for Sandin the only trade of interest was a detroit fan offering Seider for him. But if Parayko for Sandin was offered Dubas would be dumb to reject. Rielly-Parayko could become one of the best pairings in the NHL

Cause if our D core was

Rielly-Parayko
Muzzin-Holl
Lehtonen-Dermott
that would be pretty solid

Dumba is better defensively than barrie but yeah he wont work out. Muzzin-Barrie didnt work out cause of Babcock. Under keefe it probs would have worked but than rielly would have had to either stay with ceci scream or be with holl

For the oilers trade just do Kap for bear simple 1 for 1 and for those who say bear is worth more he had 1 good season and may just be playing well to get a big fat contract than next season his play could drop.

Yeah, no. Bear was an excellent player for Edmonton, really helped getting the puck up ice, which was a problem for them in previous seasons. There’s no way we give up a puck moving top 4 RD with upside for a second line Winger.

Having a porous deference is way more detrimental than having weak forward depth, hence your enthusiasm for the trade.

Dumba is way more physical than Barrie. I would give him a slight edge on defence. Barrie didn’t work with anyone under Babs so I wouldn’t draw that conclusion completely.

Interesting comments. I think having a speedy scoring winger is being undervalued with a player like McDavid. Johnsson put up 20 in a 2nd-3rd line role in Toronto and has the speed to play at McDavid’s pace. The number of players in the league - who are available - is very limited. Kerfoot would give them a lot of versatility. RNH playing first line, Kerfoot can play with Draisaitl. Need a high quality 3rd line C, Kerfoot. Need speed - check. Giving up Bear and a prospect and/or a pick for a team that can do more a d can be configured to suit its opponent - that might be a price worth paying. I perhaps overreached with Lavoie + 1st - but a bird in hand. A prospect and a pick is two maybes verses two known commodities. Higher risk lowers values.

On trading Sandin - yes - he is a hell of a player. And will get better. But his value later may not be worth his asset value now if it moves them ahead of Boston. Hanging onto Sandin means leaving room after Dermott, Andersen, Campbell and Hyman resign (plus anyone else they bring in). Its going to be tighter than now. Sandin (and Lilijgren) likely mean losing one of the core (Nylander?). Sell now to get a win now player, or leave Sandin on 3rd pairing to slow his development?

Always interesting to see how others value things. But don’t undervalued Johnsson - he reminds me of Mike Gartner.
