Marner To Dallas

Créé par: AnalyticsGeek
Équipe: 2021-22 Stars de Dallas
Date de création initiale: 21 juin 2020
Publié: 21 juin 2020
Mode - plafond salarial: Basique
Description
I understand that this trade heavily favours Dallas in terms of player value, but the benefit of making this exchange is so the Leafs can clear like 6 million in cap space. That gives them enough money to sign Mikheyev, Dermott as well as another free agent like DeMelo.

Their team could look like:

Robertson (.925) - Tavares (11) - Nylander (6.9)
Johnsson (3.4) - Matthews (11.7) - Kapanen (3.2)
Mikheyev (2) - Kerfoot (3.5) - Hyman (2.25)
Engvall (1.25) - Gauthier (.8) - Spezza (.8)

Muzzin (5.6) - Holl (2)
Rielly (5) - Klingberg (4.25)
Dermott (2) - DeMelo (4)

Andersen (5)
Campbell (1.35)

Petan (.775)
Marincin (.7)

Total Cap Hit: 78.4 / 81.5 Million

I'll tell you what's not gonna take place. That Marner for Klingberg trade. Dallas can't take that due to cap compliance issues. For one Salary Cap has already been stated as staying the same as it was, so that 4 Million comes back down. Yes they could use the offense, but not when you are over the cap space by 4 million dollars. And even tho it is 2021-22 that you are looking at I don't think it's plausible to move up 4 million dollars in cap space when NHL just got hit with a big loss in money.

You thinking Marner is even close to Heiskanen in value is even more of a joke.

Yeah, but he's playing on the second line. Surely that's worth a discount?

We'll trade you Manson, Rakell, and a week at Disneyland for the whole team during bye week.

    No using the mini-bars, though.

Not happening. TOR is not moving Marner for Klinger, nor can Dallas afford such a move...

Also that Heiskanen contract doesn't work. He's not getting that kind of money with only 4 year term. That money should bring him to a 8 year deal

That’s fair. I could lower the cap to maybe 83/83.5 & get Toronto to retain 1.5-2 million of Marner’s contract while adding a third/fourth from Dallas’ end.

They wouldn't. Their offense would be significantly weaker after such a trade.

Also Rielly and Klingberg as a pair would be terrible to watch on their own end. Neither is exactly a two-way D...

I feel Heiskanen & Dahlin are worth 9 Million on a bridge deal. Most likely they’ll get less but for me, they are franchise defencemen so they should get paid like one.

Obviously the Leafs get weaker losing a star forward in Marner, but I feel overall it’s a more balanced team. Gotta keep in mind they still have 3 elite forwards, plus put Kapanen in the top 6 with Matthews, I’d expect him to produce maybe 50 points as well.

You’re right about the Rielly-Klingberg pairing. Perhaps they could give Muzzin-Holl or Dermott-DeMelo the tough matchups & Rielly-Klingberg are more sheltered to create offence.

I agree, it’s not a fair trade value wise, but you’re looking at the whole picture. Not only do they Leafs get Klingberg, they get to sign another top 4 RHD in free agency as well like DeMelo who’s very good. That solidifies the defence corps & puts them in a better position to compete.

It's not fair value wise. full stop. If you want to argue that cap space, yadda yadda, then you still need to fill in the additional value coming from Dallas.

My boy Mitch Marner has one year that is meh, and everyone trades him for the worst offers of life. The guy was still on pace for 90+ pts in a full season. Stop lowballing him. Look at any other promising young winger, traded after a down year. Doesn’t usually go well

No, they're not. Franchise players in general don't get signed to bridge deals unless the team is in a big financial doodoo.

If the elite 4 of d-prospects (Heiskanen, Makar, Hughes, Dahlin) would take bridge deals, the amount would be in the ballpark of what players like Point, Laine and Tkachuk got. That's the whole point of a bridge deal.

$9M is such an excessive amount (over 10% of the teams cap space) no one in their right mind would consider that a bridge deal money. $9M would make Heiskanen the highest paid LHD in the entire league...

Doesn’t work for me. Marner deal wouldn’t work for either team. Feel like you’re giving Dickinson away for free. Forces Dellandrea and Harley into bigger roles than they may be ready for, etc.

I know I’ve mentioned possibility of having to go younger and with more internal options than usual vs free agency due to revenue losses, but feel like this could be forcing too many dynamics to change in one offseason.

Having said that, lot of new territory upon us, so could see some things we’d likely not typically expect from a number of teams including Dallas.

Ok why would Toronto retain? Basically what our saying is do another Phil Kessel deal and we see how much that bit them in the ass the last time.
