Try to convince Cernak to take a 1x1 deal (like that of DeAngelo, Labanc and Pettersson did) with promising him a bigger contract for 2021-22 season.

Unless Ottawa is shocked to see a player they're really hot for is still available with that fifth round pick, yeah, they accept.

Serge is getting paid or getting term. That contract isn't reasonable.

Umm, how do you figure that?

Pretty much follows how TB has dealt with all of their players coming from an ELC the last 5-6 years.

For example, Hedman got a $4M x 5 deal after his ELC expired. This deal brings the same money to him but with one year less term...

The Cernak contract honestly makes a lot of sense, I suggested something similar awhile back with Dermott but I think this works even better than that. People throwing offer sheets at him for $4 million is wild to me.

Everything else looks okay to me. Getting Johnson/Palat/Gourde/Coburn to waive will be very difficult, but not impossible. Johnson and Palat in particular are still very good and will be valuable to a number of teams. Staal trade is a little confusing, but I get that it serves as a one-stop-shop for players on cheap contracts. Just from an asset standpoint I don’t think the Wild would see Hunt and especially Stalock as throw-ins, so I think Tampa would be more inclined to look in free agency for guys they can sign for league minimum or ELCs (Volkov, Raddysh and Katchouk seem like they’ve been in the minors for awhile).

This is optimistic for sure, but I could see them pulling this or something similar off for sure

Thanks for the feedback.

Yeah that MIN trade is a bit confusing. Point was that it's essentially Stephens+1st for half retained Staal, but I couldn't make it to fit the cap as it was so I added Paquette and McElhinney and swapped them to Hunt and Stalock. Regarding those four assets, Hunt and Stalock have more value, but I personally think that Stephens+1st are more valuable than Staal, that would compensate the value.

Johnson isn't waiving for Calgary it's already been reported here in Florida that he has zero desire to play in Canada. So that Flame deal is a no go.

-Wild trade : the value is fair, but I don't think the Wild are trading Staal without getting another center back. Maybe swap Stephens for Barre-Boulet and play Volkov in his spot.

-Cernak signing : makes a lot of sense, considering what M. Pettersson got after his ELC. It makes him a target for offer-sheets but who knows if he signs it.

-Johnson trade : he's unlikely to waive for a Canadian team and probably won't waive until Seattle draft

Ok thanks for the info.

You seem to be a DET fan. Would they be interested in Johnson, let's say for a low 2nd or high 3rd?

Stephens is a C. That should solve the issue.

I'd be surprised if he becomes anything more than a bottom 6 center. ABB has much more upside, and Minnesota are moving a 50 pts top 6 center and retaining half his cap hit

I've talked with a Wild fan about this, think they like Stephens.

Barre-Boulet seems too much imo. He's one of the leading prospects in TB. For a one year rental him and a 1st are just too excessive.

I am former Detroiter living in Central Florida for 40 years. I wouldn't mind Johnson if he'd waive to Detroit and i think he would if he was promised his 2C spot back.
