A new weird Trend

Description
Why, all of a sudden, do leafs fans think they are getting Carlo lolll

So here is the most accurate trade I can think of (based on Comments from yestersdays three posts so its not fully my idea)

The trade will NOT happen: Bruins dont want to do it, and the leafs probably wouldnt either, BUTTTTT if a trade WERE to happen, this is the closest to it.

It still probably sucks for the bruins, but I dont want to seem biased so im trying to overcompensate

The stetcher trade: idk again probably an overpay with Kase and Zboril, but might as well try to not be biased.(just wanted a second dpair guy

Definitely not overrating here. Leafs fans just think they can give up a guy they can’t afford to sign for a beast of a defenseman. That’s not how business works

You are overly biased just thinking about getting anything close to Nylander for Carlo. And Leafs fans dont want Carlo. The post where all the things of that nature are was a post about what would Leafs offer IF it were to happen and answers were in realm of Kapanen. Which is realistic. Not Nylander LMAO maybe Alex.

Quoting: Silkysmooth42
Lol no. Carlo is a beast defensively, and just because he doesnt do offense as much, that doesnt make him a worse player.
Lol thats clear as day

Carlo is also on an amazing contract (dont let the 2.5 mil fool you, he is a 5 million dollar guy)

Good arguments for both sides. But I agree in Toronto’s position this is a good deal if a pick/prospect gets added in. Because Toronto would be taking on less cap (giving extra cap space) and getting the much needed Defensively strong Defenseman which Toronto lacks. Obviously it’s not 1 for 1, but if Boston adds a little bit more it should be a solid deal for both. Honestly Toronto has a lot of Offensive firepower on Defense as well they need some more defensively strong players.

actually most certainly over rating here, Bruins (and other) fans just seem to think they can squeeze insane value out of the Leafs simply because of the leafs cap and desire for a good RHD. That's not how business works either. The Leafs arnt going to starve or go out of business if they dont get that RHD, so they arnt going to stupidly over pay for one just because.

It doesn't matter. Carlo is not a great fit for the Leafs system. He is a good player no doubt but, not worth the ask here.

He played with Eichel so that low scoring comment makes no sense.

Is he as versatile as nylander? Is he a possession machine? How is he at centre? Can he carry his own line? How is he defensively?

Nylander plays with Matthews and Tavares. Nylander had 1 even strength point without matthews or tavares on the ice. hard to say he handles center as well when he is constantly on the ice with tavares or matthews.

im not the guy who called a 50/60 point guy a super star, you are.

if he is a super star what is auston matthews?

I think Carlo would be a pretty good add to the 2nd pairing, but yeah, he's not the guy the leafs even remotely consider over paying for (much like Pesce).

Exactly.

I think the Leafs would like to upgrade the RSD but it will be via other means. I don't see large changes from team. They built it this way with these things in mind. The only adjustment I do expect is in the cap compliance department. They didn't see that one coming. No-one did.

not sure
yeah he is, by RAPM at least, he's comparable to a guy like Eichel (partially bc Eichel is overrated, but partially bc he's underrated) however, he's not as good in RAPM xG as Nylander, but he's better at converting xG to actual G than Nylander (that could possibly be bc Eichel tho)
Neither has really played C much in the NHL
shrug
pretty good, not quite as good as Nylander, but definitely not a liability

Nylander is really really good at hockey... Carlo is elite defensively, but is a complete liability offensively... Nylander is a lot better all around player (he's not as good offensively as Carlo is defensively, but he's not that far off, and he's no where close to a liability defensively)

I really didnt think this was an outlandish idea to people on an ACGM site. Literally HALF of a trade is the Team Needs, the other half is the value.

So fine whatever the value is IDC, but the leafs fans really offered Carlo for Kapanen, like what? Its mind boggling that so many people just want to argue on this website and not take constructive criticism

Either way, my point has been proven, people arent thinking about the Team Needs. So NO: Bruins will not trade Carlo to the leafs (or any team) unless they get back a top 6 forward

I like when leafs fans tell me matthews is better than eichel and then say the stats dont mesh because my guy plays with eichel when their guy plays with matthews, who they claim is better than eichel.

also, i took issue with him calling nylander a superstar, saying if he fits in that category than so does reinhart. never said reinhart was better.

Bro I watched all of that happen. It’s ridiculous. Whether the value of your trade here is good or not, I don’t care. The point is people don’t understand that the bruins aren’t giving up Carlo for a bunch of pieces they don’t need. It’s one thing for the sabres to give up Eichel (who wants out) for pieces (that are still worth a good amount). But this just doesn’t make sense.

You are right, and it’s crazy how many people just won’t listen

I said it yesterday, Leafs have nothing BOS wants that can make for a clean deal approaching a key Win-Win situation...

* BOS strength is depth at D. BOS need (if Kase doesn't pan out) is a scoring #2RW = ie: Palmieri, Konecny, Atkinson, Rakell, Gallagher, Tuch, J. Anderson, Toffoli etc.
* TOR strength is top-line FWD depth. TOR need = ie: Carlo, Pesce, Parayko etc.

A discussion around Carlo for Nylander is as logical as the day is long...
To argue otherwise, is to argue as a FAN & NOT a GM. The fan pages are three doors over on the left, tell em' McGruff sent ya...

Personally, I overshoot TML all together call Philly and try for 1:1 Carlo-Konecny deal (.72ppg, cheaper, younger and more complete game).

The problem is that although the needs of both teams may be being met here, the value's just awful. Nylander was on pace for 37 goals and 71 points this year. You don't trade that for Brandon Carlo, like, ever. If a young superstar like Nylander gets moved for a defenseman, they better be a damn good one. Like a guy who's a #2 or #3 defenseman good. This trade benefits a direct rival way too much for the Leafs to ever consider doing it. The only way they do a deal like this is for Kapanen+. You might not think that's good value and that's exactly why the deal just wouldn't happen. It doesn't make sense for either side here.

Also, if you think Nylander is overrated because he gets to play with one elite linemate usually, what would you say about David Pastrnak, who gets to play with two elite linemates every single game?

In a word Nylander is SOFT.

I never said "over-anything" about WN and Pasta is not in the convo here, it's a diversion tactic. Kapanen is fodder to the Bruins - it's a downgrade/doesn't fill the clubs need and because Carlo's PK prowess is a key asset on the most successful NHL clubs.

He's top-4 in BOS and would def be top #2-3 in TO (Reilly-Carlo pairing ideal). Additionally, Carlo backstops Krug's ability to freewheel and would do the same for Reilly allowing him to do what he did two years ago when he was Norris-worthy.

The skinny on Carlo "the pylon" is:
23yr old, 6'5", 212 lb, 37th pick, RS-RD, shutdown guy, whom has yet to play 300 NHL games and is on a sweet US$2.85M RFA deal (period).

Like I said, I take my 25cents and call Philly anyways for a better RW in TK. Moreover, I can likely make a stronger offer of Carlo + RW Kase because TK will fill the teams RW need; not Willy...

So I agree, Leafs have zero need for BC...they maybe need something like a 26 yr old un-drafted LD scoring Finn FA to help them stay Cap compliant and perhaps win a round some day...

Gotta go make that call now...

Back before Carlo became the player he was it was rumored a swap for Landeskog was being discussed somewhat seriously. Sweeney said no at the time. Now idk where landeskog and nylander line up against one another. But given Carlo has developed as expected I think it’s a close to a fair trade value wise with no retention. In the end Don’t think either team would say yes to the deal.

Exactly, thank you guys. Listen i was never here to overvalue Carlo or any bruins guys lol, just being realistic. Leafs dont have anything that the bruins want (as yall said) so i proposed the only realistic way a trade could happen (and even said maybe Carlo and a 2nd for nylander (50%), but bruins dont even want to do that)
