These are the type of bandage moves M.B dose. The thing is he dosen't spend to the cap. So he likely wouldn't do this.
Keeping this team on the bubble al the while wasting the prime of players careers.

Thing is, Goligoski isn't a LD and you will have to give up a bit more since they're serviceable players and not usual cap dumps.

As for the Detroit trade, why would they acquire an AHL dman with two years left for a decent bottom 6 player with one year left?

It clears cap for the Coyotes to sign Hall and the Wings have no d-men, a 7th D for a 16th forward seem fair.

Alzner has no value, He has 1 year longer and about $800,000 more then Helm. So without a sweetener attached to Alzner Detroit easily declines.

Goligoski is actually really good, certainly not a cap dump. Raanta is also a very good goalie when he is healthy. MTL is trading nothing of real value here and getting a 1B goalie and a #2 / #3 D while making Arizona retain salary.

Arizona can do a lot better in my opinion.

Depends how much cap they need to shed and which players make the most sense to move out to make it. IMO Goligoski is one of Arizona's best dman and Raanta will be in high demand. These are the wrong players Arizona will attempt to move out to shed some cap. The idea is good but the execution isn't. I think Stepan will be their main target to trade to open up cap followed by Raanta. Only choosing the guys that don't have NTC's or NMC's for simplicity sakes. If Soderberg, Grabner and Demers accept a trade to the trading team, they will also be candidates.

I get your point in this and these are the TYPES of moves MB could make but Goligoski isn't the right player based on their team.

The Helm for Alzner trade makes so little sense that it's not even plausible. When a team needs a dman, they don't go out and get one of the worst ones available. Helm is still a decent NHL'er, Alzner isn't. Then throw on the fact the contract differences....... there is no way for this to make sense. You'd have to tack on a 2nd round pick to Alzner for this to work Detroit.

And that my friend is what free agency is for. They are not trading for a guy who can not make it in the NHL, which costs them more money and longer term. That is just nuts.

So the Wings take on an AHL d-man with more term and. cap out of the kindness of our hearts? Helm will have value at the TDL.

He doesn't need it. Raanta is a luxury backup but any 2-3m$ backup should be fine. The last decent backup we've had is Budaj and it's been five years
