we arent getting Rakell for that.

Toffoli will go elsewhere. who would sign here right now? 5 million isn't enough anyways.

LJS is 100% correct. If ANA were to move Rackell (a big if imo), they are going to want a high end prospect and at least a 1st rd pick. They are rebuilding too, so why would they give up the best player in the trade AND take back more salary?

Toffoli if he is willing to sign for $5M could probably pick any team in the West and he could get that, sure as shooting COL would give him that.

Rakell would cost our BUF 2020 1st or Cozens, and they're not getting Cozens. I feel confident in saying both of those statements as facts.

Now if that pick ends up being around 7th overall, like expected, I'd be tempted to work something out around that pick for Rakell. But would ANA is the question. I think maybe yes?

As much as I love Rakell, and as much as I love my Ducks, Rakell doesn't = 7th overall pick. Maybe Anaheim adds Jacob Larsson?

I don't think it makes sense for Buffalo to trade that pick. Here's a deal I could live with that doesn't cost you it:
Jokiharju
2020 second
2021 second

{That may be the first time I've ever used those two pronouns in succession}

Yeah I don’t think you give up the 7th overall but a top prospect and a 1st in the late teens early twenties is what I was thinking.

I don't think moving Jokiharju is an option for us... I'll take the known commodity of his stature over the high draft pick, but that's just me.

Understand if not everyone feels the same there, 7th overall is an incredibly valuable pick. And this looks like a great draft class at the top again. But I've watched the Sabres pick 7th or 8th overall time and time again the past decade, and so far we haven't come close to drafting a player like Rakell. (Hopefully Cozens changes that)

Every team's situation is different. Dahlin has 1 yr left on his ELC, and Eichel is in his prime, we can't wait around 3 years hoping for another 7th overall pick to develop. And I can't give up Jokiharju, he's too valuable to us.

Rakell + Larsson for 7th OV sounds really good to me. I can't say no to 2 more Swedes! It's an aggressive move, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Rakell's contract is the final sealer for me, it offers so much flexibility for the rest of your roster to get a player like that for that price.

I think the value is there. I mean, when you're drafting wingers between 5-10 you'd be pretty happy if they turn out to be 30 goalscorers... of course, there is always that risk that they may not. Having said that, any team with a top 10 pick shouldn't move it for Rakell. That makes no sense.

Would love a deal around Rakell for Jokiharju+. I'd take that deal in a heartbeat.

I thought you were on board with Rakell for Timmins and the Colorado first (29th overall)?

Yes a high end prospect and a 1st. Timmins is better than any prospect BUF has outside of Cozens. I’d even throw in a 3rd or 4th rd pick to pad the difference between 29 and say 24.

7th overall in this draft is a different animal.

My question was directed at my esteemed Anaheim colleague @mytduxfan . I construed his comment (in response to yours, which is why I included it) as saying "that's pretty low for me, I'd pass" to yours, which I construed as Rakell for a top prospect and a first from 16-24. There has been a lot of discussion about a trade of Rakell for Timmins and Colorado's first (presumably somewhere between 28 and 31) and most of us Ducks guys like that.

Whoops... another late night misread. I only read the part about a "1st in the late teens". A top prospect + late 1st would be within the range of return I'd expect for Rakell. Depending on the prospect, it would probably be the minimum I'd expect. However, definitely within the range of potential deals. Kind of like my view on Timmins + 1st. It's not something I'd accept personally as I think it's a little too low for me right now, but, at the same time, I wouldn't be disappointed or felt we got shafted if such a deal were to be made. It would fall within the range, but be on the lower side of the return value scale for me. Meanwhile, 7th OA is a the top end of what I think you can expect for Rakell. Although, like I said, that deal would never happen because no team with 7th OA needs Rakell.
