Sabres pass. Better off with Miller in the lineup. They should be looking to resign him now at an affordable number.

I feel like the Isles match this, but even if they don't you're putting yourself in Cap hell. In 2 years you have to re sign Tkachuck, Mangiapane, Poheling, possibly Armeia, Dube, Valimaki, among others. Montreal would probably never even do this trade in the 1st place though because they are getting absolutely scammed. If they don't do it, we are already over cap and have to re sign all the people mentioned above minus poheling and armeia. Nolan Patrick is probably going to be signing for well over a million, probably at least 2.5. This would also already put us over cap already for this season. Buffalo probably won't do this as they seem to wan't to keep Miller. Overall, this will absolutely ruin the team and we will be screwed for at least 7 years, because we will have to get rid of everyone to not be over cap, if we do go over cap have to deal with the penalties, and after we pay everything off and have an AHL team playing for us because we have to call up the whole stockton team, we will have to restart the whole damn team. This is horrible.

Backlund not really needed in MTL.

Hanifin would be a fit depending on how optimistic someone is with Romanov. Habs would want to move a LD if they are adding Hanifin since they have Romanov, Chiarot, Mete, and Kulak.

Bennett could use a change of scenery, but certainly not needed in MTL, he's like a Lehkonen with more grit but not as good defensively. Doubt MTL would be interested.

Montreal isn’t interested in any of those pieces, but Calgary is ripping themselves off. (Unless I’m overvaluing Hanifin)

Hard to envision the trade market for Gaudreau to be Morgan Frost and Phil Myers, with Nolan Patrick being more valuable to Philadelphia than what the trade market represents. Most trades for established players never really cost a team their best prospect and a very promising younger talent.

The Mark Stone trade cost Erik Brannstrom, hard to see Gaudreau getting more than that in any market.

Gaudreau is 2 years younger than Stone and signed for 2 more seasons. Vegas traded for 2 months of Stone and luckily for them were able to get him extended right away.

Also, Stone has a career high of 73 points, where as Gaudreau's is 99, plus career points per game is 0.86 vs. 0.96, not a real great comparable.

If the Flames decide to deal Gaudreau this off season, 2 years of him should bring a haul. Probably not as much as I have here, but probably pretty close.

The Stone trade came WITH an extention, what are you saying they were lucky to extend him. It just took a while before we know what was exactly the contract extension. Stone is way better than Gaudreau in the playoffs, way better defensively and have seize.

It's pretty reasonable to infer they had a deal in place with Stone prior to trading for him, since he signed it basically immediately. Points wise, Gaudreau has the edge, but I'd say it's a consensus that Stone is a top-5/7 right winger at the time of his trade and today. Ottawa had a huge incentive to move him, but I would assume that same incentive would need to be present for Calgary for them to move Gaudreau.

If you're looking at a trade for him from Philadelphia, I'd say Frost could be the main piece going back, but not Phil Myers. Really can't envision the market suddenly adjusting to a team's top prospect, a up and coming defensemen, and whatever value Patrick adds to the trade.

If the Flames can't get multiple young pieces/futures with reasonable upside in return for 2 guaranteed years of Gaudreau (likely much more than that if it were Philly), then there is no point in trading him for a futures package. They are better off to hold onto him and hope they can extend him for the remainder of his career, or try to deal him one for one for a player that fills more of a need and that they have a better chance of keeping long term.

If Treliving puts Gaudreau out there though, and teams like Philly, Pitts, Washington, Buffalo, NYR, etc all start competing with each other putting together offers, I'd be willing to bet the Flyers would offer more than just Frost to get him.

I agree they are better off to hold onto him if they can't get the return they want, but there isn't any recent trade precedent to support Morgan Frost, Phil Myers, and Nolan Patrick for Johnny Gaudreau.

There isn't any recent trade precedent to go against it either.

26 year old, dynamic, career 0.96 point per game wingers with term left on their deals (under $7 million cap hit IE a steal) don't get traded around too often.

The fact that there isn't any trades that are close to this evaluation and players near or better than Gaudreau's status have been traded for less is the precedent that he won't get this return. Mark Stone, Ryan O'Rielly, etc.

The only comparable trade I can see is the Brayden Schenn trade, where he was moved with 3 years remaining at 5.125M cap hit for Jori Lehtera (cap dump), and (2) 1st round picks. I would be fine with Philadelphia to move James vanRiemsdyk, Morgan Frost, and their 2020 1st round pick for Gaudreau, a return better than the Brayden Schenn trade.
