Geekie is going to be on the NHL roster when play comes back, so if I'm counting him as a prospect, it would literally be for a month and a half. Jack Drury could be higher because he is so good, but I was approaching this from the standpoint of which prospect I would want to have if I were Seattle being paid to take someone in the expansion draft. He's VERY good, but it does show off the depths of the Canes prospect pool

He's also very good, but as I just said, I was approaching this from the standpoint of who I would want to take a cap dump if I'm seattle, and Honka was that low down the list. He's very good, better than his brother for sure, but I don't think I can justify putting him above some of the others in here.

Killinen and Slepets are players I can see being either very good or very bad at the NHL level.

Fensore getting slept on... He's probably the best d spec on the team (Bean wasn't the best AHL d man imo, and you of all people should know how aging curves work... At 22 players really don't get a ton better for that much longer, usually peaking at twenty four and plateauing from 23 to 28...)

Rees is simply better than Suzuki, he had a very underwhelming year this year

Tieksola too high, he had a very very good year in junior A SM Liiga, but a guy like Honka had a decent year in LIIGA...

Jason Cotton A. Isn't really a prospect anymore... And B. Is way too high, having him over his brother is absurd, he was barely over PPG in the WORST NCAA conference (by a huge margin)

D men are reknowned for taking longer to develop. What you say is true with forwards, but you look at defenders, and they often peak at around 25 and plateau from 25-30. Their position is much more difficult to learn, which means their often later to fully find that top end talent.

Rees I couldn't justify being better than Suzuki. Rees was mad good in the OHL, but Suzuki's season was cut abrupt due to a scary eye injury. I'm not dropping stock in Suzuki for an injury that he couldn't do anything about. It's also not like it's a likely injury to re-occur.

Tieksola having a great year in comparison to someone like Honka having a decent year in Liiga I called a wash, in hindsight, I probably should have Tieksola a little lower but I'm lazy.

Cotton should be below Makiniemi, that was a missclick on my part. The brothers were meant to be together as kinda eh players.

Thats fair, I'm very high on him myself, I'd have him 3rd or 4th on this list personally. putting up 19 points in 43 games as a 19 YO Dman in the top finnish league is very impressive to me. He can really drive possesion, even against men at his age. Honka’s puck skill is elite and gives him PP1 upside at the NHL level, so if his defensive game can hold its own in a regular shift, he could become an impact player. Honka’s points tend to be the primary kind because he makes pro-level plays, rather than the safe, short pass.

One of my favourite D prospects in the league personally

Ok, even then, Bean has 2 or 3 years to develop (players generally plateau a year before they peak iirc) and Fensore (who is already very good offensively, and is very smart defenseively) has six or seven... (And as I said is already a p smart player)

Rees was better than Suzuki pre injury... Rees was also just really really good this year, probably would go around 25 in a redraft

The difference between Liiga and Jr A SM Liiga is HUGE, just being able to land a full time job in Liiga in your SY+1 would make me take you over 90+% of guys in Junior A. Much less doing what Honka did in Liiga, he was an average player in the league at the age of 19, when the (average) player is probably around 25... which more than makes up for the ~8 month difference between him and Tieksola... Honka has a far higher floor, is far closer to NHL ready, and likely has a higher ceiling, vs Tieksola who is 100% still a project, good ceiling, but not close to Honka in anything else (going back to my redraft analogy, Honka probably jumps to around the mid to late second, and Tieksola stays in the late third to early fourth range)

Jason should also probably be below Weber... I would not be surprised to see him in the ECHL next year, at the age of 25...

Well, I'm NOT a Canes fan, so I'll yell at you for why you're right: THANKS!

There are some players on here, pretty high up, of whom I was unaware.

Agree that Jason Probably shouldnt be on this list. Cant even see him playing 1 NHL game.

As far as the whole Bean argument, im still on the side that he will get even better. There is plenty of Dman that keep getting better as they get older. (deangelo has a huge breakout year this year and is turning 25)

There are probably more examples of that but to lazy to look. I have faith in Bean, but I dont think he will be an NHLer in a Canes Jersey.

Im still not sold on Fensore, I will be paying closer attention to him, the next time he gets on the ice, as I trust your opinion.

Charlotte (or Chicago) is gonna be SCARY in a couple years.

Rees=Suzuki at OHL level, but Rees>Suzuki at NHL level. Rees gives me serious Brad Marchand vibes, and we've never had a player like that on the canes, except maybe Erik Cole.

I am very high on Jack Drury as I believe he can be Jordo's replacement in a few years. It's between him and Geekie.

Kochetkov is very promising, but I do not see him in the NHL for another 3-4 years, similar to Shesterkin. I like his game though but goalies take time.

I really hope bean makes the team next year so we can at least give him a chance at the NHL level, even if it means trading two of gardiner, skjei, or fleury this offseason.
