Realistic 2RD Solutions for Dallas

Description
When I say "Realistic" I'm not necessarily talking about the trade value; I am talking about RD that could be available via trade this offseason.

Some of these deals I got from other ACGM teams and I will link those teams in the trade description.

Pay no attention to lines or cap. I'm focused solely on the trade aspect of this ACGM team.

The Stars have arguably the weakest RD depth in the entire league. Dallas has John Klingberg and Stephen Johns as the only 2 NHL caliber (or potential NHL caliber) RD in their entire organization. Fedun is an acceptable 7th, but the only other two RD in the organization, Joe Cecconi & Reese Scarlett, are simply just career AHLers. They need so short & long term help at the RD position. The long-term RD solution isn't going to come from any of these trades, but the trades below are all potentially 2+ year solutions, allowing Dallas to draft & develop a long-term solution to play behind John Klingberg.

If Wennberg puts up 40 points for the Stars in either the 2020-2021 or 2021-2022 season, the 2022 3rd Round Pick becomes a 2022 2nd Round Pick

Détails additionnels:
This trade really only makes sense if the Coyotes are able to re-sign Taylor Hall. Being able to move the remaining year of Goligoski's $5.475M AAV contract would provide them a little bit of breathing room to make a contract happen.

If you're looking at straight trade value, I personally think Dallas should probably be adding another mid round pick (or B level prospect) here, but if the Yotes are in a cap crunch, they may be willing to take less simply to get Goligoski off of their books.

  1. Cogliano, Andrew
Détails additionnels:
Personally, I don't see this being very realistic, but it was interesting concept I came across the other day. The Panthers have a decent pool of RD, both in the NHL and in their farm system.

Obviously we all know Bobrovsky is on a massive contract, and if Florida is looking to shed a little bit of salary in order to make some moves this offseason via free agency, their RD has enough of a surplus to limit any kind of loss felt from trading away a guy like Stralman.

Like the Coyotes trade, Dallas would likely have to add here, as Cogliano has very little value at this point in his career, but with their defensive struggles, a defensive forward like Cogliano could still be effective for them.

    Faksa, Radek (RFA Rights)

Ristolainen is also a popular trade piece used by Buffalo fans here. Personally, Montour is who I'd be targeting simply for the fact that he's going to cost less in a trade, and that Dallas has Heiskanen, Hintz, and Gurianov all up for new contracts between now and when Ristolainen's contract is up.

Columbus probably accepts and then flips Honka to Toronto as we really don’t need him. Would Faska be a 2nd line center? I’ve primarily seen him on the 3rd line, if he is only 3rd line Columbus already has Jenner for that role. We need a 2nd line center.

Just wanted to give credit to these guys. I either talked to them about certain trades, or they were the original creator of the trades.

He can play 2nd when needed. He's definitely more suited, for 3rd but has played some 2nd line with Dallas and has even had some time on the Power Play. He's certainly not the long-term solution for Columbus at the position, but he gives you a good stop-gap until you find that long-term solution.

Would be a decent stop gap until Foudy can fill the role

Risto or Montour would easily get you Faksa IMO.
Honestly, Buffalo needs a shut down center as well and that’s Faksa. Faksa is one of the toughest players to play against in the league and one of the better defensive forwards, and that’s something sorely lacking on the roster.

I think if it’s Risto in the trade, then Buffalo would need to retain salary.

I agree. Honestly, I think Ristolainen is slightly overrated and Montour is slightly underrated. Both have very similar value in my eyes, and at the end of the day I think Montour has a slightly better chance of being left alone by Seattle during the expansion draft than Ristolainen would.

I actually think Montour world be someone teams would target, like Seattle. A lot of scouts around the league have to see how miscast Montour is in the system is Ralph Kreuger.

I don’t think a lot of fans give Ristolainen enough of a break though with his situation. He’s one of the most overused defenseman in the league and has to be the number one defenseman here because nobody else on buffalo can do it....not even Montour. Dahlin will eventually. I also don’t think he gets enough credit for being one of the top offensive defenseman in the league for the past three years. He would be a stud second pair defenseman for most contenders and ideal for a power play

I wouldn't even feel the need to flip Honka; we could try him out for a little while and see if we can develop him. Peeke had times when he was faltering under the weight of too many minutes, so being able to give him a break strikes me as a good thing to have for his development.
