Doubtful Wings pay a 3rd for Russell, who is just a dump for you. He is slow defenseman, who has zero offensive ability

Ya like I said I messed up on that one. The Oilers are giving a 3rd Round Pick and Kris Russel for Detroit’s 5th round pick. So we’re giving to get rid of him. I was just too lazy to fix it.

We’d rather use that cap for a top 4 defenseman like Dillon or used to acquire (1-2 round picks for cap dumps)

Because Johnsson sucks and nobody wants him. I wouldn't do this deal at all, it's terrible for the Oilers.

I think it depends on how much the Leafs need a defensemen at that time. I thought Larsson was worth marginally more that Johnson. But it could also very well be a 1for1.

Stop playing RNH on 3rd line. He doesn’t belong there, it’s been proven time after time that his performance gets significantly impeded.

I think you could do both if you wanted to. Detroit has a lot of cap space and I’m sure a few roster spots available. I’m just not sure if any UFA’s will sign in Detroit. You would have to give them a pretty good deal that I’m not sure Yzerman would be willing to do.

To be fair, he hasn’t exactly had the best line mates on the third line. I think last time he was playing with Khaira and Gagner. I’m not saying Benson and Kassian are all stars but there an improvement. Plus you could always move the wingers up and down the lines or move Nuge back with Draisaitl. It’s not like these will be the lines for an entire season. I just like the idea of 3 great offensive lines.

He had Eberle and Pouliot in the 16-17 playoffs. Sure, Pouliot had a complete offensive collapse but Eberle was still a decent scorer and they had a offensive collapse. Not to mention, this is with two centred lines above him that are going to get 20+ mins a night (I’d prefer them to be in the 18-20 min range as I believe their offensive ability isn’t hurt but Tippett won’t do that). He’d be getting in the range of 10-12 minutes a night, which would almost kill his 5on5 offensive game completely. Take the forward line 3 and 4 more as a 4a-4b combination and less of a 3 scoring lines system.

You do make a good point. I don’t know if this helps my argument or not but Nuge will also play on the number 1 power play and the penalty kill for us. So he could get like 15-17 minutes a night.

That is true, personally don’t like Nuge on the PK or any top 6 player (for injury reasons), nor do I think Tippett likes it. Which is why I think priority is to get a decent PK centre who could play 3rd/4th line 5 on 5 efficiently. Somebody like Johan Larsson or Erik Haula (mind you that’s taking a big risk).

I think we’ll see this free agency will definitely be a little different given the stagnant cap and higher escrow. It probably won’t effect the top 10 free agents but those middle tier guys will probably get fair or discounted rates for a couple years until league revenue is back up. With the lack of teams cap space I bet Yzerman will be able to go bargain shopping on short term deals for guys like to shore up any weakness and be flipped at the deadline. I could see Yzerman interested in Pool party as an add to take a dump and not a mid to late round pick that will probably be a career junior or AHL player.

I had. Its one of my favourite teams. Being able to hit does not mean he is great defenseman.
